A new 3D South Park video game is reportedly on the way, following a near billion-dollar deal between the creators of the show and ViacomCBS. The most recent South Park video games were The Fractured but Whole and mobile title Phone Destroyerboth of which launched in 2017.

South Park video games have been around since the show launched, with titles on the Nintendo 64 and the original PlayStation. These were critically panned, and it wasn't until South Park: The Stick of Truth in 2014 that a game based on the series was met with wide praise. South Park: The Stick of Truth and sequel The Fractured but Whole not only contain the same quality of the show's writing thanks to the creators' close involvement, but their visuals are almost identical. Video game development tech quickly caught up with the simplistic art and animation style of South Park, allowing the games to act almost as interactive episodes of the show.

It seems that more South Park video games are now on the way. Bloomberg reports that a new 3D South Park title is going to be made. This information comes after a $900 million deal with ViacomCBS was struck, which will supposedly ensure that more South Park is on the way and lead to more productions for the Paramount+ streaming service. Jason Schreier has mentioned on Twitter that it's unclear what publisher and/or developer will be making the new South Park game.

If the new South Park game is indeed 3D, then it likely won't be a continuation of publisher Ubisoft's The Stick of Truth and The Fractured but Whole's style, which used 2D visuals that resembled the show. There were a number of 3D South Park games on older consoles, including first-person shooters and kart racers, with all of the characters having big spherical heads to match the show's designs. South Park fans have made some impressive sandbox versions of the show's world in games like Dreams, so there's no reason why an official game can't also look high-quality, even if it's not emulating the look of The Stick of Truth.

ViacomCBS have invested a lot of money in Trey Parker and Matt Stone, with new seasons of South Park running through to 2027 and fourteen movies in the works. That's a lot of content to produce, and there's a chance that the core series team that was able to put so much work into The Stick of Truth and The Fractured but Whole may not be able to spend the same amount of time on a new South Park video game.
