According to rumors, FromSoftware has reportedly begun development on a brand-new Soulslike exclusively for PlayStation platforms, though it's not a sequel to Bloodborne. Founded in the mid-1980s, FromSoftware originally made a name for itself with King's Field and Armored Core titles. 2009 PS3 exclusive Demon's Souls marked a turning point for the storied studio, though the weight of it all wouldn't truly sink in until Dark Souls hit stores for multiple platforms in 2011.

To a degree, FromSoftware seemed to be the one that got away, the relationship Sony could've further cultivated if it had only seen the brilliance of From's new IP. Sony published Demon's Souls in Japan, yet Atlus and Bandai Namco played the role of publisher for the project's releases in other territories. When the core idea of what would become known as a Soulslike reemerged in 2011, players around the globe instantly grew enamored. It's no wonder Sony quickly locked down Bloodborne after Dark Souls rose to meteoric success. Now rumors indicate the two groups may have another partnership in the works.

As relayed by GamingBolt, Twitter user HazzadorGaming recently shared a rumor claiming FromSoftware will develop a Soulslike exclusive for PlayStation that's not of the Bloodborne variety. This same account additionally called attention to speculation that Sony plans to host its next State of Play broadcast on Thursday, August 19. Interestingly, industry insider and XboxEra host Shpeshal_Nick, who previously leaked information about Ghost of Tsushima's Iki Island DLC, corroborated the FromSoftware rumor from HaazadorGaming, responding to the latter's Twitter post by saying, "My rumor mill got screwed again." In further clarifying his comment, Shpeshal_Nick told a follower the "From PS5 exclusive" was his "rumor mill for next week."

While these claims shouldn't be taken at face value, FromSoftware and Sony partnering on another exclusive project would hardly come as a surprise. In addition to Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, FromSoftware also developed Déraciné for PlayStation VR. Who's to say the two won't continue this trend of teaming up for interesting one-off titles?

Right now, the Japanese studio is hard at work on finishing Elden Ring, an open-world fantasy RPG that seems unlike anything the group's previously created. Originally announced during E3 2019, the title reemerged at E3 2021 with gameplay and a January 2022 release date in tow.
