Disney and Pixar’s newest collaboration, Soul, includes a brief Pizza Planet truck Easter egg that can also be found in almost every other Pixar film. The iconic Pizza Planet truck made its debut in 1995 in Pixar’s first (and Easter egg-filled) feature film, Toy Story. When Woody and Buzz are left at the gas station after falling out of the car during a fight, Woody spots the truck and recognizes the logo. Woody then convinces Buzz to get in the truck because he knows that Andy and his mom were on their way to Pizza Planet, which is a space-themed restaurant and arcade. Buzz smartly buckles himself in while Woody is tossed around in the truck bed by the Pizza Planet employee’s reckless driving.

The truck reappears in Pixar’s second film, A Bug’s Life, and in every Pixar film since – except one. The Pizza Planet truck has been in 22 of Pixar’s 23 feature films, remaining inexplicably absent from The Incredibles, though it was included in both the video game and the sequel. But since Pixar has so regularly included the Pizza Planet truck in its films, it was reasonable to expect that Soul would continue that tradition.

Luckily for Easter egg-loving Pixar fans, the Pizza Planet truck can clearly be spotted in a brief scene during Soul. When 22 takes Joe to the Hall of Everything – the place where souls go before they’re born to find their spark – the Pizza Planet truck is tucked off to the left behind a cello and in front of an airplane, garbage truck, and large globe. The Pizza Planet truck is especially noticeable because it’s one of the few things in the hall that’s not simply the blue-gray outline of an object. Why the Pizza Planet truck appears in the Hall of Everything is another question.

Pizza Planet Truck in Soul Pixar Easter Egg

Since it is, after all, the Hall of Everything, it would make sense for it to depict literally anything – and that would include the Pizza Planet truck. But in the context of the scene, where unborn souls are exploring the Hall of Everything to find a spark, it’s possible that the Pizza Planet truck is more symbolic of Pixar than of pizza delivery vehicles. The Pizza Planet truck has indeed become synonymous with Pixar and it could be an homage to Pixar and the people who use their "spark" to make great animated films like Soul.

There’s nothing particularly outstanding about the truck in Toy Story, Soul, or any of the films in between, but it's nonetheless become a beloved Pixar icon over the course of its 25-year life. In some Pixar films, the Pizza Planet truck is included in ways that break chronology and in-universe logic, appearing as a wood carving in Brave and floating through an asteroid field in The Good Dinosaur. These unusual appearances of the Pizza Planet truck (and other Easter eggs) have even helped fuel theories that Pixar’s films all take place in the same universe, but, in reality, the Pizza Planet truck is likely just a fun Easter egg hidden by the animators for fans to find and enjoy.
