Patience has paid off for one Sony superfan, as a brand-new PlayStation 5 has been sent out by the company to the first person who stood in line for its previous generation consoles, the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. It is not every day a new gaming console comes out, and for many gaming enthusiasts, it is an event that is worth the early start to get to the front of the line on launch day. With Covid 19 still rearing its ugly head to the world, this is one ritual that simply could not be carried out this year, as no physical consoles were available to purchase on shop floors on the day of the PlayStation 5 release.
The launch of Sony’s PlayStation 5 on Thursday was a long time coming. The now current-gen gaming platform was first announced in October 2018 and has been eagerly anticipated ever since. For over two years, gamers have been following rumours and leaks left, right and center. Now the time has finally come, and fans can experience the new generation of games on their PlayStation 5 consoles.
For one fan though, this launch day was a lot more special than previous ones and it will certainly stand out in their mind as the day their dedication to Sony truly paid off. Joey Chiu is an avid fan of PlayStation gaming – so much so that he was the first in line for both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro when they released. This year, however, Sony rewarded his devotion and sent him his own PlayStation 5, complete with a personalized note from the gaming giants. Joey Chiu shared his delight with his Twitter followers, exclaiming that being the recipient of the coveted gaming platform was “100% the craziest thing to happen” to him.
This is not the first time that Sony has recognized Joey Chiu’s commitment to PlayStation gaming. He was also selected to feature in one of its advertising campaigns for the PlayStation 4. In a large mural released by Sony, Joey can be seen standing aboard a rowing boat as it ploughs through the icy sea around him. Companioning him are some of PlayStation’s most iconic gaming heroes, including Uncharted’s Nathan Drake and Tomb Raider's Lara Croft. The slogan for this epic artwork- Where the greatest play. Sony clearly holds Joey Chiu in extremely high regard.
Patience is a virtue, and it is nice to see fans being recognized for their devotion. Joey Chiu is undoubtedly feeling very humbled by this latest touching gesture from Sony.
