2020 will kick off with a new Consumer Electronics Show and Sony is already hyping up the event on its website with an announcement that could be related to the PlayStation 5. The CES events are generally used to announce new gadgets relating to apps and hardware, but the PlayStation 5 will be released during the 2020 holiday season, so Sony is going to have to reveal more information about the system soon.

The 2020 holiday season is gearing up to be the beginning of the next great console war, as the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X will be competing for space beneath the Christmas tree, but we still know little about either system in terms of hardware or lineup. The only game announced for the PlayStation 5 is Godfall, while only a few new hardware features have been revealed, such as the new Dualshock controllers having haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

It's possible that Sony is planning to start the promotion for the PlayStation 5 at the upcoming 2020 CES event, as the official Sony website is promoting the #SonyCES hashtag, along with a statement saying that "The future is coming". The blurb on the website promises that Sony is unveiling a unique vision of the future, that will unleash sensations and emotions, which sounds a lot like it could be promoting the PlayStation 5, due to the information we know about the controllers and the leaked devkits & patents for the PlayStation 5 that have hinted at a new PlayStation VR headset for the system.

Sony will also likely reveal other hardware at CES, even though we know that there won't be a PlayStation Vita 2 reveal, as the company is officially out of the handheld gaming market. The Sony event at the 2019 CES involved announcements for 8K television sets, wireless headphones, and 360 Reality Audio, which lets the consumer feel as if they are listening to music that is playing all around them while only wearing headphones. Sony is the only member of the big three console companies that are focusing on virtual reality and the experiences it can bring, so technology that offers a greater feeling of immersion is something that can easily be predicted for the PlayStation 5.

Microsoft and Sony have both kept their cards close to their chest in regards to information about their upcoming systems. The rumor mill has been working overtime for both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but the time for speculation will have to end soon, as the 2020 holiday season is on the horizon and the time to get the audience excited for the next console generation is almost upon us. Microsoft used the 2019 Game Awards to promote the Xbox Series X, so it's possible that Sony will do the same thing with the PlayStation 5 at CES 2020.
