Here’s a recap of what went down in the Sons Of Anarchy season 5 finale “J’ai Obtenu Cette”. One of the overarching themes in the fifth season of Sons Of Anarchy was what kind of leader Jax Teller would be after becoming the new president of SAMCRO following the season 4 finale. More specifically, the question was; would Jax become the kind of ruthless leader his deposed predecessor and stepfather Clay Morrow was?

Judging by Jax’s actions throughout Sons Of Anarchy season 5, like bludgeoning Sergeant Mackey to death with a snow globe or shooting up his now sober ex-wife Wendy with speedball, it seemed he was turning into every bit the tyrannical leader Clay was. If there was any lingering doubt that Jax taking over leadership of SAMCRO had changed him, the season 5 finale “J’ai Obtenu Cette” quickly erased it.

First, Jax helped Nero and his guys take down their rival Dante – leader of the gang the 222s – who was running a dog-fighting ring and served him some karmic retribution when they locked him inside a car with an angry pitbull. Elsewhere in Sons Of Anarchy's “J’ai Obtenu Cette,” Tara was planning on leaving Charming for a job in Oregon and taking her and Jax’s kids with her. Gemma got wind of her plans, however, and threatened Tara with going to the police about her part in Otto’s murder of nurse Pamela Toric earlier in season 5. Luckily for Tara, Otto seemed to solve that problem by gruesomely biting off his own tongue before being interrogated about Pamela’s death, rendering him incapable of blabbing on Tara.

For a while in “J’ai Obtenu Cette” it looked like Jax was setting Tig up for certain death when he delivered him to Damon Pope, before the tables were turned and Jax and Tig took out Pope and his men. This finally let Tig exact revenge on Pope for killing his daughter earlier in Sons Of Anarchy season 5. Conveniently, Jax had Tig use Clay’s gun to kill Pope which allowed him to set up Clay for the death of Pope and his men, resulting in Clay’s arrest before he could escape to Belfast.

Jax may have rid himself of both Pope and Clay but it came at the cost of Bobby Munson’s respect, who tells Jax he’s become the kind of leader he desperately didn’t want to be and turns in his SAMCRO vice president badge. Despite Otto’s earlier impromptu tongue surgery, “J’ai Obtenu Cette” ended with Tara being arrested for her part in Pamela’s murder, seemingly set up by Gemma and setting in motion a whole load of drama to come in Sons Of Anarchy season 6.
