Sonic the Hedgehog is getting some new friends in a new Sonic Prime clip. The animated show based on SEGA's video game franchise will center on Sonic as he finds himself caught up in an adventure where the multiverse is at risk and needs him to step up and save the day. Sonic will also grapple with the mistakes of his past and embark on a journey of self-discovery and redemption.

Deven Mack is leading the cast of Sonic Prime as the titular hedgehog, taking over the role from Roger Craig Smith in the video games and Ben Schwartz on the big screen. Development on the animated show was first announced in late 2020 as Netflix partnered with SEGA and production companies WildBrain Studios and Man of Action Entertainment for a 24-episode order. With Sonic Prime inching closer to making its Netflix premiere, audiences are getting a new glimpse of what's to come from the animated show.

As part of the streamer's Geeked Week, Netflix has revealed a new Sonic Prime clip. The video introduces new characters making their debut in the animated show and joining the titular hedgehog on his multiversal adventure. Check out the new clip below:

Introduced in 1998's Sonic Adventure, Big the Cat is one of the more divisive characters in the SEGA franchise, with both critics and gamers unfavorably noting his low intelligence, lack of meaningful development in other games and humor regarding his obesity. Most of Big the Cat's stories in the Sonic games center on him trying to save his frog friend Froggy from a variety of threats, including Chaos in Sonic Adventure. Despite statements from the Sonic Team that the character would be retired, Big the Cat has gone on to appear in a variety of other games, including Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Sonic Colors, Sonic Runners and Team Sonic Racing.

The reveal that Big the Cat will appear in Sonic Prime may leave some feeling leery of the show's potential, especially with the clip indicating not much has changed from his game appearances as he remains simple-minded and easygoing. Though the franchise has been adapted for the animated world before, Sonic Prime comes as the Sonic the Hedgehog property is enjoying renewed success on screen thanks to Paramount's movies, which has led to orders for both a Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles spinoff series led by Idris Elba at Paramount+. The wait for Sonic Prime is nearly over as the series is set to premiere later this year on Netflix.
