In response to the newly announced Sonic Origins, publisher Devolver Digital recently slammed the upcoming remaster's complicated DLC release structure with a bit of clever marketing for their upcoming title Trek to Yomi. Sega will re-release four classic Sonic Genesis titles on June 23 of this year, however, what is actually included depends on just how much each individual player is willing to spend.

While the main release of Sonic Origins is pretty straightforward with two playable modes dubbed Classic and Anniversary, things become confusing to many fans when it comes to the pre-ordering process. Currently, there are multiple versions of the pre-order that provide different tiers of content with some currently unavailable for purchase even though they have been announced. Though this has been frustrating for many, some have chosen to poke fun at the complicated pre-order chart with one gaming publisher going so far as to make a much more straightforward one of their own.

Devolver Digital tweeted a 'comprehensive' guide to pre-ordering its upcoming action-adventure samurai title Trek to Yomi. According to the chart, players who pre-order Trek to Yomi will be treated to the full base game, 10% off of their purchase, full credits at the end of the game, and a variety of other gameplay mechanics. In short, players on every system will get the exact same game for the exact same price when they pre-order.

While made in jest at the expense of the complicated Sonic Origins DLC release structure, this tweet by Devolver Digital coincidentally highlights the widespread topics of tiered pricing and micro-transactions. Lack of completeness upon release has been an issue that many gamers feel is expanding as developers attempt to sell certain aspects of a particular title as DLC when it might have been included in the base game nearly a decade ago. There are even some titles like Halo: Infinite that are piecemeal launching rather than dropping the full game at once.

When one of the main praises for a title like Elden Ring is that it feels complete, then there is something wrong with the industry as a whole. It is refreshing to see a gaming publisher be self-aware enough to call out a ridiculous practice in its industry. This also demonstrates Devolver Digital's faith in Trek to Yomi and hopefully, it lives up to expectations. Otherwise this tweet poking fun at Sonic Origins may not age to well if Trek to Yomi falls flat.
