Sonic the Hedgehog is a beloved video game property, who's starred in television shows, a feature film, and plenty of comic adventures. One of Sonic's adventures featured a bizarre crossover with the uber-violent Spawn and a handful of other Image Comics' creations.

The blue blur has starred in many comic books over the years, including Sonic Super Special. In the series' seventh issue,  Sonic was featured in a crossover extravaganza, that had everything from X-Files references, alternate dimensions, and numerous Image Comics 90s stars, including Spawn, ShadowHawk, Savage Dragon and more. While Sonic's comics are meant for children and Spawn's adventures are much more mature, the two actually met in the book.

In Sonic Super Special #7 by Ken Penders, Jim Valentino, Frank Gagliardo, Pat Spaziante, and Jeff Powell, a mysterious woman named Particle is being interrogated by Scolder and Mully. They ask her about her ability to travel through time and different dimensions. She ends up in Sonic's homeworld, and after encountering the animal-like aliens, she stuns them and takes the Master Emerald. This leads Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and the rest of the crew to Earth, where they run into Spawn. They ask the menacing figure if he knows where they are. Unfortunately, Spawn isn't very talkative.

It's extremely jarring to see Sonic and friends interact with Spawn. Keep in mind, Spawn is an extremely dark comic that features plenty of violence and gruesome moments. After all, Spawn was formed after the assassin Al Simmons was murdered and sold his soul to a demon in order to see his wife one last time. Does that sound like a character that should exist within the same world as Sonic? Spawn's cameo is brief, but is without a doubt, one of the strangest crossovers in comic history.

The rest of the story sees Sonic and friends attempt to find Particle and the Master Emerald. Ultimately, the crew teams up with heroes like Union, Shadowhawk, The Maxx, Savage Dragon in a universe-hopping adventure that ends with the Master Emerald being returned and the Sonic characters returning to their world. The plot isn't the important thing as the unlikely crossover gave us more bizarre Sonic/Image Comics' team-ups than you could ever imagine. But, Spawn's appearance is without question the most interesting. It's not surprising writers didn't do more with the character, as his adventures are generally violent and bloody, so a small cameo works. Although, Sonic fighting alongside Spawn would be really fun (and equally strange to see).
