New images from Sonic the Hedgehog offer up the first look at the speedster's CGI/Live-action hybrid look. Video game movie adaptations have repeatedly struggled to find success, but Paramount is hoping to find a rare hit in the genre later this year. They're set to release a live-action movie starring everyone's favorite blue hedgehog this November, but official looks at the film have been almost non-existent.
The closest fans of the character have come to catching a glimpse at how Sonic will be brought to life on the big screen was through a motion-poster. Even though the full look of Sonic is impossible to see thanks to the design of the poster, many people reacted strongly to the tease - and not in a favorable way. With the release date approaching, it was only a matter of time before his full look was revealed, and it looks like that time has finally come.
Hamagami/Carroll Inc. updated their website today to reveal the first look at Sonic the Hedgehog. The timing of the release does not appear to have been coordinated with Paramount though, as the entire page to their website dedicated to the film has already been taken down. However, Kotaku was able to capture a look at the website before this occurred and have now shared the photos for all to see. If that wasn't enough, the promo materials also detail Sonic's "chill and likable" personality.
Now that the full look of Sonic in his solo movie has been (unofficially) revealed, the comparisons to his video game self have only grown. While the video game version of Sonic can get by with a less detailed design, the movie has attempted to update the look so that it somewhat resembles the look of an actual hedgehog. This is why the CGI version of the character - who will be voiced by Ben Schwartz - is more detailed with the quills than Sonic has been traditionally. It also appears that Sonic's torso is now longer, legs shorter, eyes not as big, and hands naturally white instead of being gloves. Even his giant red shoes have been replaced with regular sneakers.

The latest Sonic the Hedgehog reveal has once again already generated plenty of reactions from fans of the property, and they're anything but universal praise, as seen in the tweet above. However, it's important to remember that these photos were taken down, so even if they are an accurate representation of how Sonic looks in his movie right now, there's still time for the design to change and be perfected. Alita: Battle Angel made Alita's eyes smaller after a less than desirable response to the original look, and the latest The Lion King footage shows just how quickly effects can improve on these blockbusters. Paramount will hopefully reveal Sonic's official look in Sonic the Hedgehog soon, but these photos will have to do until then.
