New fan artwork transforms Sonic the Hedgehog into Ezra Miller's The Flash from the DC Extended Universe. Sony's super-fast hedgehog finally made the jump to the big screen in last month's live-action Sonic movie, which has earned generally positive reviews and grossed $266 million at the box office so far. Meanwhile, Miller (much to the delight of fans) made a surprise cameo as Barry Allen in The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths Arrowverse crossover earlier this year, ahead of his long-awaited solo film hitting theaters in 2022. Obviously, the two characters can't meet up in an official capacity, pending an unforeseen agreement between Paramount and Warner Bros. to share the Sonic rights. That's where fan art comes in.

Instagram user and digital artist ArtofTimeTravel has posted some art that transforms Sonic into Miller's iteration of the Scarlet Speedster, as you can see below. In a message attached to the image, the artist explained they were inspired by the "surprisingly" fun Sonic the Hedgehog movie and posed the big geek question: "Who would win in a race, Flash or Sonic?"

All Sonic vs. Flash debates aside, this artwork is further proof of just how much people are enjoying the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. For a film that once seemed DOA after the universally negative response to Sonic's unsettling initial design in the first trailer, Sonic the Hedgehog's turnabout surely comes as welcome news for Paramount. The studio was coming off expensive commercial misfires like Gemini Man and Terminator: Dark Fate last year, so Sonic couldn't have happened for them at a better time, either. Combined with the response to his Arrowverse cameo, this art similarly suggests that Miller's The Flash emerged from WB's Justice League snafu with his popularity intact and fans are eager to see more of him on the big screen. Suffice it to say, the studio will be happy to hear as much.

Here is the official synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog: Based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
