Today, June 23, Sega will host a Sonic Symphony Orchestra event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. The first Sonic the Hedgehog game launched on this day in 1991. It's fitting, then, that Sega has spent the last several weeks honoring the speedster's special day with new Sonic announcements and crossover events.

The latest Sonic-centric celebration comes in the form of a Sonic Symphony Orchestra event, wherein the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a variety of the brand's most iconic songs from its decades-long history. Fans who tune in can additionally expect to see "Sonic-favorite rock band" Crush 40 take the stage, Sega announced in a press release. In conjunction with Summer Games Fest 2021, the publisher will host the live musical performances via Sonic's official Twitch and YouTube channels at 3:00 PM PT.

Sega's decision to devote a special broadcast to the music of Sonic the Hedgehog seems nothing short of brilliant, especially since music remains an integral part of the property's long-lasting legacy. The celebrations don't end here, either. In September, for example, Sega will release Sonic Colors Ultimate, a remaster of the Wii and Nintendo DS exclusive. And more news about the new Sonic game and movie sequel will likely surface sometime this year, as well.
