Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has gotten a new poster from Dolby ahead of its upcoming release. The action-adventure comedy film, based on Sega's popular video game franchise, serves as the sequel to 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog, which saw the titular character, voiced by Ben Schwartz, land on Earth and team up a local town sheriff, Tom Wachowski (James Marsden), to prevent a mad scientist from taking his powers for himself. Met with mostly positive reactions from critics and fans alike, the movie quickly became a commercial success, earning over $319 million worldwide and becoming one of the highest-grossing video game adaptations of all time. The news that Paramount was developing a sequel came just months after the film's premiere, and with an April 8, 2022 release date, anticipation from fans has been growing.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will follow Sonic and Tails as they attempt to stop Doctor Robotnik, along with Knuckles, from finding the Master Emerald and furthering his quest to conquer the world. Schwartz and Marsden returned to reprise their roles, as did Jim Carrey, who played Robotnik in the first film. The sequel's cast includes Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub, Shemar Moore, and Idris Elba, who voices Knuckles. The first promotions, including posters and teaser videos, began coming out in December of 2021 and the film's most recent trailer revealed Doctor Robotnik's emerald powers, as well as additional looks at the chaos that will ensue when he and Sonic face off again.

In addition to this new poster, the movie's official Twitter account posted a series of nine character posters this week as a way to continue building excitement. The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 character posters feature the aforementioned cast names, along with an image of the individual they play. In another recently released poster, the film appears to be using the success of The Batman to promote itself, parodying the DC's latest project by putting Sonic's face on a light resembling that of the Bat Signal. A lot of the sequel's other marketing efforts have gained the attention of fans, many delighting in calling them some of the best they have seen.

After the success of the first Sonic the Hedgehog and the reactions given by fans, it will be interesting to see how the sequel stacks up, both in terms of content and its box-office numbers. With a third Sonic movie already in development, it certainly seems like Paramount has high expectations for the future of this series. Marketing for the movie will no doubt continue in the coming weeks as Sonic the Hedgehog 2's release date nears closer.
