Paramount Pictures unveils the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie trailer, giving the first look at the sequel to the hit video game adaptation. The follow-up to the 2020 film sees Dr. Robotnik, now known as Dr. Eggman, returning from the mushroom planet with a new partner in Knuckles the echidna as they search for the Chaos Emerald, an all-powerful gem that gives the power to build and destroy civilizations. Sonic must team up with his newfound friend Tails to set out and find the Chaos Emerald themselves before it falls into Robotnik's evil hands.
Ben Schwartz returns to lead the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in the titular role alongside Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, James Marsden as Tom, Tika Sumpter as Maddie, Adam Pally as Wade, Natasha Rothwell as Rachel and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone. The film will also mark the franchise introductions of Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna and Shemar Moore in an undisclosed role. Production on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ran from March to June 2021 and now with only a few months to go until the film's release, Paramount Pictures has exciting news for audiences.
The first Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer has arrived from Paramount Pictures. The video offers the first look at the fast-paced adventure in which the titular speedster must protect the world and the Chaos Emerald from the evil Dr. Eggman. Check out the trailer below:
The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer proves to be an absolute treasure trove of teases for a further dive into some of the most iconic elements from SEGA's video game franchise to the sequel. The video immediately opens up on Ben Schwartz's titular hero enjoying a chili dog before taking out a group of robbers, which was a staple of Sonic's diet in the source games that was briefly mentioned during the road trip portion of the first film's plot. Additionally, the new footage offers a great look at the proper arrival of Tails and his iconic Tornado biplane the two have used frequently in the games in their fights against Dr. Eggman.
The biggest takeaway from the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer is, of course, the introduction of Idris Elba's Knuckles the Echidna and his own set of powers. Initially fooled by Eggman in the games to believing Sonic is an enemy out to take the Master Emerald for himself, the red character has proven to be a formidable foe when facing off against the heroic hedgehog and his appearance at the end of the trailer is sure to build plenty of anticipation for their confrontations in the sequel. The wait for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 isn't much longer as the film is set to hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
