Warning: Spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog: Scrapnik Island #4A Sonic the Hedgehog miniseries just added yet another pathetic failing of Dr. Eggman to an already extensive list. IDW Publishing's main continuity began laying out Eggman's many flaws in an overly conspicuous way long ago.

The newest addition is revealed in Sonic the Hedgehog: Scrapnik Island #4 by writer Daniel Barnes, artist Jack Lawrence, colorist Nathalie Fourdraine, and letterer Shawn Lee. The finale of the miniseries sees Mecha Sonic repurpose Dr. Eggman's completed prototype that would have allowed the mad scientist to control his Badniks from his mind had he not gotten bored and scrapped the project. Mecha Sonic plans to use Eggman's prototype to replace Sonic's brain with his own, but only ends up linking their minds together instead when reformed Badniks interrupt the procedure.

Dr. Eggman Gets Bored Too Easily

Mecha Sonic tells Sonic about the mind control prototype that Dr. Eggman scrapped in Sonic the Hedgehog Scrapnik Island 4

Even though Mecha Sonic's initial plan fails, the effectiveness of the inadvertent linkage that forms between his and Sonic's minds as a result of this failure proves just how successful Eggman could have been with his original prototype. Unfortunately for Eggman, he got bored with the project and moved onto something else entirely (which obviously didn't work). This demonstrates the fact that Eggman doesn't follow through on even his best ideas if he loses interest. Eggman might even be able to defeat Sonic if he didn't stop pursuing his most promising concepts. This is a massive flaw that just underscores how much Eggman is his own worst enemy. He either has a short attention span and can't focus, or is at the complete mercy of every inkling he experiences at any given moment.

This is just the latest in a long list of personal failures where Eggman's overall personality and idiosyncrasies have sabotaged him again and again, preventing him from defeating his arch nemesis, Sonic. Ironically, Eggman's greatest former fanboy and aspiring protégée Dr. Starline first identified and then made these pathetic traits part of a whole initiative to save Eggman from himself in the Bad Guys miniseries and the tie-in Imposter Syndrome miniseries. Dr. Starline realizes that Eggman must always make a grand theatrical entrance, blindly follows his instincts without testing them first even though they have always steered him wrong, only improves upon the same ideas he's used in the past without trying something new like Metal Sonic, and allows his emotions to get the better of him, especially when contending with Sonic. Dr. Starline builds a plan based on these many faults by doing the exact opposite, like building living cyborgs rather than the lifeless Metal Sonic.

Dr. Eggman Is Too Much Of A Psychopath

As far as Eggman's mind control prototype goes, the scrapped initiative is actually part of a much major larger failure that the entirety of events on Scrapnik Island proves. Eggman obviously should have completely destroyed every Badnik that failed him rather than just letting them rust on an island because all of them - except maybe Mecha Knuckles - have been completely reprogrammed. So now they are free of Eggman's will and have allied themselves with Sonic the Hedgehog. If IDW ever chooses to return to Scrapnik Island, Eggman now has many other enemies to contend with besides just Sonic and the Restoration. Dr. Eggman may have chosen to abandon his failed Badniks rather than destroy them out of an inherent twisted need for them to suffer for failing him. If so, then this psychopathic, sadist behavior of his is another one of his many downfalls. He could also just be lazy and figure it's easier to just toss them onto an island than actually destroy them. Whatever his reasoning, Dr. Eggman's pathetic flaws that constantly lead him to get in his own way are the main reason he will always fail to defeat Sonic the Hedgehog.
