A new Sonic the Hedgehog 2 TV spot arrives bringing in Knuckles and Tails ahead of the Super Bowl, where a new trailer may air for the film. Ben Schwartz returns to lead the cast of the sequel as the titular hero alongside Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik/Eggman, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Lee Madjoub and Adam Pally. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will also mark the proper franchise introduction of Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Miles "Tails" Prower following her post-credits cameo in the first film, Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna and Criminal Minds' Shemar Moore in an undisclosed role.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 picks up some time after the events of the first film as Sonic is left home alone in Green Hills while Tom and Maddie go on vacation. However, everyone's time of relaxation are interrupted when Doctor Eggman returns to Earth from the mushroom planet he was sent to in the first film and works with Knuckles to find the Maser Emerald, requiring Sonic and his new friend Tails to find the powerful gem before it falls in the wrong hands. Anticipation for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is growing higher as time draws closer for its release.

The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 TV spot comes a few days ahead of the Super Bowl, where a number of studios air trailers for their biggest upcoming tentpole projects. Between the sequel appealing to a demographic for those who grew up playing SEGA's iconic video game franchise and those recently falling in love thanks to the first film and its star-studded voice cast, the Super Bowl would prove the perfect place to unveil new footage. Additionally, with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 only a few months away from hitting theaters, a new trailer could provide some better insight into the nature of Robotnik and Knuckles' relationship.

While most of the footage may look familiar to those who caught the first trailer for the highly anticipated sequel, the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 TV spot does feature a few new glimpses from the film, including Knuckles performing a superhero landing and Robotnik in his mobile lab. The arrival of Knuckles has been one of the most talked-about elements for the film since set photos teased his inclusion and the official synopsis would later confirm his working with Robotnik to track down the Master Emerald, with anticipation shooting through the roof when Idris Elba was announced to be voicing the red speedster. The wait for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is nearly over as the film hits theaters on April 8.
