Mike Flanagan, director of Doctor Sleep and creator of Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House, has lined up another project with the streaming service in the comic book adaption of Something is Killing the Children. The plot of Something is Killing the Children follows the town of Archers Peak, where children are going missing with those who survive telling horrifying tales of creature attacks. The town's only hope rests in Erica Slaughter, the mysterious stranger who just made her way to town. It's a horror comic from Boom! Studios created by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera, which has seen massive success since its debut in 2019. Something is Killing the Children has sold out several printings, and it even clinched an Eisner Award for Best New Series in 2020.

According to THR, Flanagan will co-write the project with Trevor Macy, who has produced many of Flanagan's projects through their Intrepid Pictures. This will be Macy's first writing credit, and though Flanagan is also producing, it's unclear as to whether he'll direct any of the episodes at this time.

Flanagan has previously directed one episode of The Haunting of Bly Manor and all 10 episodes of The Haunting of Hill House for Netflix, so the speculation around him directing an episode is valid. This only furthers Flanagan's relationship with Netflix as he also has Midnight Mass, a new horror television series slated to hit the streaming service later this year. Flanagan and Netflix also have The Midnight Club in the works, which is an adaptation of Christopher Pike's novel of the same name. Given how busy Flanagan is right now, he may not be up for directing an episode of Something is Killing the Children, but audiences are about to have several chances to see his work on Netflix.
