Solomon Kane Pics Kick some Evil Butt

Some movies release so much information during the filming process that you feel like you've seen the entire film before it even hits theaters (Transformers 2 and Terminator 4, I'm talking to you.) Then there are some films that give so little pre-release information that some begin to think there may not be a movie at all - Black Death and Solomon Kane come to mind.

The first time we heard about Solomon Kane was January of 2008 and then nothing until Comic-Con when Screen Rant writer Rob Keyes reported that the trailer and footage for Solomon Kane was "surprisingly, very awesome." Well, now the great guys at Bloody-Disgusting have posted some pictures from the movie and they look pretty decent. See what you think below.

I know there have to be some fellow gamers out there that will recognize this next picture but I couldn't help but notice some striking similarities between Solomon Kane and the Witch Hunter character from the MMORPG Warhammer Online. Do you agree?

You can check out more pictures and some posters from Solomon Kane over at Bloody-Disgusting.

The film stars James Purefoy (Rome) as Robert E. Howard's Puritan fighter who's lone goal in life is to defeat the forces of evil. Apparently, like the discussions of the Legion Trailer have asserted, evil can be destroyed with nothing more than a rapier, dagger, flint-lock pistols and a cool floppy hat. The movie also stars lesser-known actors Jason Flemyng (Stardust), Pete Postlethwaite (The Omen), Max von Sydow (Minority Report) and Rachel Hurd-Wood (Peter Pan) and is directed by Michael J Bassett, who also helmed the very cool Wilderness. Flemyng and Hurd-Wood both have other movies coming out soon with Clash of the Titans and Dorian Gray respectively.

Here's something I cannot for the life of me understand: Why was there a four-studio bidding war to pick up the movie rights to the classic video game Asteroids, while decent movie ideas like Sean Bean's Black Death and James Purefoy's Solomon Kane are struggling to get a U.S. distributor? Hollywood pees their pants to fast-track some ridiculous ideas, while movies audiences would actually LIKE TO SEE fall by the wayside and end up in a Redbox machine.

There is a bootleg version of the Solomon Kane Comic-Con trailer floating around, but nothing official has been released yet. Rest assured that when it does drop, Screen Rant will be there to bring it to you.

What do you think of the pictures for Solomon Kane? Do you like the look and style of the movie so far and would you like for it to get picked up soon?

Solomon Kane has a release date of December 2009 - but with no U.S. distributor, that most likely will not happen in the States.
