Ron Howard has officially wrapped post-production on Solo: A Star Wars Story, finally bringing the movie to the end of its long and winding journey to the big screen. Howard, of course, took over the spinoff almost a year ago when original helmsmen Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired by Lucasfilm four months into filming due to creative differences. By all accounts, Solo essentially started from scratch under Howard's watch, as the Oscar-winner reportedly reshot 80 percent of the material. The production issues raised several red flags, but now things are running much more smoothly.

Approaching the task with high amounts of efficiency, Howard steadied the ship and kept the project on track for its long-scheduled May 2018 release date. It wasn't too long ago he confirmed that his edit was locked, and now he's completed the entire picture with plenty of time to spare.

Taking to Twitter, Howard shared with his followers that post-production on Solo is finished, thanking the cast and crew for all of their hard work. He closes out his message by saying he hopes fans enjoy the prequel when it opens in a handful of weeks. Check out his post in the space below:

Star Wars fans might recall Rian Johnson wrapped post-production on The Last Jedi three months before that film debuted, but Episode VIII is more of an exception than the rule. Especially on effects-heavy tentpoles, post-production can take a long time, and that's even when there aren't extensive reshoots taking place. From a certain point of view, what Howard did was pretty incredible, making Solo in about 10 months. Given what transpired, Lucasfilm very easily could have delayed the film to give the team more time, but it looks like sticking to their original release plan was the right move. Now instead of competing for attention in a crowded December, Solo is poised to be one of the summer's biggest box office hits. Early box office tracking estimates it'll pull in $150 million domestically in its opening weekend.

With work on the film now done, the only question that remains is if Solo is of high quality. Fortunately, it won't be much longer until that answer is revealed. The film will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15, and there will most likely be social media reactions hitting the web shortly after the screening. Marketing has certainly made a compelling case Solo will be another worthwhile adventure through the galaxy far, far away, so hopefully the final product lives up to its potential.
