Metal Gear Solid is one of the most beloved stealth game franchises of all time, and fans are now going wild over rumors of a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. The threequel is the most beloved game in the series, as the stealth mechanics, survival gameplay, and dense narrative made for such a unique gaming experience, not to mention Solid Snake, one of the most iconic game protagonists ever.

However, because the series is so detailed and Snake has taken on many different forms over the past couple of decades, it has led to tons of questionable creative choices, which has made for some hilarious memes. Between Snake's love of cardboard boxes, a prosthetic arm increasing his speed, and becoming Demon Snake, these memes are so funny because they're true.

Snake And His Gun

For a video game franchise that's mostly stealth-based, there doesn't exactly need to be a whole array of artillery to choose from, even if gamers do like choices. However, not only is there such a limited choice when it comes to weapons in the Metal Gear series, but Solid Snake rarely uses anything outside of his trusty MK23.

The MK23 is a semi-automatic pistol with a laser aiming module, and no other character in any other game has been so married to their custom weapon. However, Snake did cheat on the MK23 with the P90 in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The P90 comes with a silencer, fires more rounds per minute, and is way better than MK23, but there's no beating the classic.

The Three-Minute Ladder

This meme is referring to one infamous moment in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater that some players would rather forget, but other players also remember the moment fondly. Right before coming face-to-face with The End, players have to climb this ladder for three whole minutes, and gamers not accustomed to Hideo Kojima's random humor would mistake it for being a glitch.

The sequence tests a lot of fans' patience, but other fans of the series think it's a great moment of reflection, and that it's when players should be thinking about their experience with Solid Snake up to that point. However, it's one of the harsh realities of replaying Metal Gear, and no amount of reflection or introspection will change that.

The No-Kill Runs

As with any stealth game, whether it's Splinter Cell or Hitman, it's always most impressive when players complete levels without having killed a single NPC, and that's no different when it comes to Metal Gear. However, given the difficulty level of the Metal Gear games, it's a lot harder to complete the level while showing so much mercy.

Using the screenshot of the Doctor screaming, "Just this once, everybody lives!" in Doctor Who, this meme perfectly captures the excitement, joy, and surprise of completing a no-kill run. It has become an unbelievably momentous occasion, and a rare one too.

Becoming Demon Snake

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain takes the series to a whole other level when it comes to supernatural elements, and that's on best display when it comes to Demon Snake. Players become this version of the character when they commit too many violent and immoral acts. The more immoral acts committed, the bloodier Snake will become, and he'll even grow horns too. Only a master of the series who can easily complete no-kill runs can avoid the transformation.

This element of the game was influenced by Shadow of the Colossus, one of the best-forgotten story-driven PS2 games. The 2005 game forces players to commit violent acts against imposing monsters, and gamers only find out at the end of the game, after having grown horns, that they were the villain all along.

No Mercy

While Terminator: Dark Fate might not have gotten the best response from fans and critics, and it bombed at the box office, it at least makes great meme fodder. This meme pulls a screenshot from the sixth Terminator movie of a Terminator standing behind a character that has no clue they're about to mercilessly get murdered by a killing machine.

This scenario isn't remotely different from Snake in Metal Gear. Just like the T800, the T1000, and any other Terminator, Solid Snake is a killing machine. And while the games are logistically challenging when it comes to completing the levels undetected, the guards are often so deaf, dumb, and blind.

Drowning Is Terrifying

Water levels are always the worst, no matter how good the video game franchise is. Whether it's Sonic the Hedgehog or Tomb Raider, water levels are frustrating, difficult, and have bad mechanics, and as great as the series is, that's no different when it comes to Metal Gear.

Almost every game in the series has had a water level, and every fan has died countless times during those levels. However, this meme points to the five words every Metal Gear fan loves to hear; "We've managed to avoid drowning." That sentence is said ecstatically by Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and every gamer shared the character's enthusiasm at that moment.

Crawling Through Microwaves

Snake has been through some tough times, but he learned to pick himself back up and he has always come back stronger than ever. Neither bullets nor venomous snakes can keep him from completing his mission. However, in Metal Gear Solid 4, Snake was significantly older, and it was clear how much those missions affected him in later life, but little did he know the worst was yet to come.

This meme is referring to the infamous microwave hall in Guns of the Patriots. In the sequence, Snake goes from walking to limping to crawling, and with the operatic music playing, gamers have never felt Snake's pain more. The sequence is so slow-paced and neverending that, in a way, it feels like the ladder climb, only on a greater emotional and more chilling level.

Box Snake

One of the ways players can stealthily get passed guards is by hiding under a box and edging forward when they aren't looking. There's no better example of how deaf, dumb, and blind guards are than the fact that they never notice a box getting closer and closer to them. But it's another example of Kojima's great sense of humor, and it's what separates Metal Gear from other stealth games.

As Snake has so many alter egos, whether it's Solid Snake, Old Snake, or Demon Snake, Box Snake is by far the most entertaining, even though that might not be an official title. The meme is referring to when Rick turns himself into Pickle Rick in Rick & Morty, and it's impossible not to read the caption in Rick's raspy but lively manner.

Metal Arms Increase Speed

In Metal Gear Solid V, Snake is given a prosthetic arm, but this meme points out that once players have it, Snake's running speed is increased. While it might weigh less than his actual arm, there's no way it could help both Snake's speed and stamina. But of all the other bizarre occurrences in the game, why question it?

It must be founded in some kind of logic, as there's no denying that Bucky's stats significantly increased when he was given a prosthetic arm in the MCU too. There's no doubt that the Avenger was running a lot faster in Avengers: Endgame than he was in Captain America: The First Avenger.

The Pope Loves A Deep Cut

This meme depicts Pope Francis holding up a disc of a Metal Gear game, but one that fans wouldn't immediately expect. The disc is Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, which is essentially a remake of Snake Eater, but with one major difference.

The game reinvented the way players look at Snake as it was the first game with the traditional third-person camera instead of the top-down view. This change was divisive at the time, as the birdseye view is part of what made Metal Gear unique, but multiple games later, nobody, not even Pope Francis, has looked back.
