TNT has renewed Snowpiercer for a fourth season. The post-apocalyptic thriller television show is based on the French graphic novel called Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette. The story was initially adapted into the film known as Snowpiercer in 2013 that was directed and co-written by Bong Joon-ho (Parasite) and co-written by Kelly Masterson (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead). However, the series acts as a reboot of the story that the movie follows.

Snowpiercer debuted on TNT in May 2020. The story follows people on a massive train that never stops moving around the world, which is also referred to as the Snowpiercer. Those aboard the train are the last living members of humanity, as the world has frozen over. So far, two seasons have aired with a third season coming in the near future. The second season of Snowpiercer ended on a cliffhanger involving the team looking to fight back and search for somewhere warm outside of the Snowpiercer.

Similar to the source material and the film, the Snowpiercer series tackles a lot of social commentary over the course of its story. The plot addresses everything including class, social injustice, and the politics of human nature. While the film received a very positive reception from critics, a television show allows the story to be more expansive and explore the characters in a more detailed fashion. The first season received mixed reviews, although the second season has earned a more positive reception. Only time will tell how good the third season will be.

This news of a fourth season being greenlit before Snowpiercer season 3 has premiered shows TNT's confidence in the series. They clearly expect that the show will continue to have staying power for an extra season. While there's no details on a release date for either of the next two seasons, Diggs' comment that more details will be coming soon is reassuring. For fans of the show, this announcement video is a big deal and a great way to hype up the next two seasons of Snowpiercer.
