With the television adaptation of the very best Chris Evans movie (according to Metacritic) having a successful first season, Snowpiercer is heading full steam ahead into season two.

Though few of the actors in Snowpiercer have much of a prolific filmography, the acting in the show was one of the most praised things of the first season. So it’s interesting to take a look at what makes the actors portraying the passengers of the deathly train.

Daveed Diggs’ Rap Career

Snowpiercer is just one of the many things Daveed Diggs has done since Hamilton, as he isn’t just an actor. Diggs has been obsessed with English literature and performing arts in all sorts of different ways, from participating in slam poetry competitions to being the lead in the Broadway phenomenon, Diggs has always been a performer. But his most interesting work comes from being the lead member in the rap group Clipping. The band has three albums (with a fourth on the way,) with their most unique being There Existed An Addiction To Blood, which is based on a 70s vampire movie.

Why Jennifer Connelly Was Cast In Spider-Man

Melanie in Blue Suit Snowpiercer

Jennifer Connelly is inarguably the biggest star of the TV show, and it’s rare in her case to take up a role on the screen as she has been the reason for many great movies. Most recently, Marvel Cinematic Universe super-producer interestingly decided to cast her as the voice in of the A.I. suit in Spider-Man: Homecoming. He chose Connelly because she starred in the movie Career Opportunities, which was written and produced by John Hughes.

As Homecoming shares many of the same themes and tropes with John Hughes movies due to being a coming-of-age movie at its core, Feige thought it’d be a fun casting choice. The choice is made even better by the fact that her husband, Paul Bettany, played the A.I. voice of the Iron Man suit.

Sean Bean’s Fear Of Flying

Snowpiercer Sean Bean Mr Wilford

Sean Bean has a huge fear of flying, and it once got so intense on the production of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring that when it came to getting in the helicopter to shoot scenes at the top of Mount Caradhras, he instead hiked up the mountain for two hours every day. And to make things more exhausting, he did in costume. After shooting of The Fellowship had wrapped, director Peter Jackson convinced him to fly back to New Zealand for some extra scenes, but they weren’t even used.

Lena Hall’s Unusual Singing Background

Miss Audrey in Snowpiercer

Though Lena Hall is trained in musical theatre and performed as a ballerina at one point, the eclectic performer joined the rock band The Deafening when she was 26 years old.

At the same time, she was having her tonsils removed, which she claims helped her sing in alternative and diverse ways compared to the classical training she was given when she was younger. After her tonsils were removed, she reportedly learnt to sing at the top of her lungs for over an hour and still be fine.

Mickey Sumner’s Super Famous Father

Mickey Sumner from Low Winter Sun

Mickey Sumner is the reason for some of the show’s best episodes, but though a lot of people don’t know, she comes from a family of talented entertainers. Most notably, Sumner is the daughter of Sting, lead singer of the new wave rock band The Police. Sumner spent the 2010s proving she could stand on her own and not live in the shadow of her father, as she was praised for starring roles in loads of indie darlings, including Frances Ha and The End of the Tour.

Mike O’Mallet’s Baseball Caps

The Good Place

Being Irish and from Boston, it only makes sense that Mike O’Mallet is a fan of the Boston Red Sox baseball team. The actor often wears a baseball cap representing the team, and he even wore a baseball cap in every single episode of Yes, Dear that he appeared in. It has now become one of the actor’s trademarks, though he won’t be seen wearing a cap in Snowpiercer, which is laced with period drama costume design.

Annalise Basso’s Dream Role

Annalise Basso in Snowpiercer

A few years ago, Basso informed her followers on Instagram about who her drama was. In 2017, she posted a side by side image of her on the left and Batgirl from the comics on the right. As the DCEU tends to throw any idea at the wall and sees what sticks, it’s likely we could see Batgirl soon. Given how much she resembles Barbara Gordon and considering her scene-stealing performance in Snowpiercer, the actor/character combo is actually an accurate fit.

Steven Ogg’s Sports Career

Steven Ogg grins in The Walking Dead.

Before Steven Ogg starred in Grand Theft Auto V, arguably the best Rockstar game, which led to his now prolific career as a character actor, he had a couple of different career options. Imagine being so talented that you have the option of having a successful career in TV or a successful career in professional sports, as he was on the path to becoming a pro volleyball player. Ultimately, he ended up choosing acting after he sustained a few too many injuries.

Lena Hall’s Real Name

Audrey in Snowpiercer

There are a lot of performers in the entertainment industry who change their names, with some being more extreme than others. The most famous example of this is Martin Sheen, whose real name is Ramon Esteves. Similarly, Lena Hall isn’t her real name, though it doesn’t stray too far from the truth. Lena is short for her first name, Celina, and Hall is short for her last name, Caravajal. Though she ironically found out that ‘Caravajal’ was used as a stage name by her family generations down the line, and the name stuck.

Sean Bean’s ‘No Dying’ Rule

Boromir

Being known to have died on-screen so many times, Bean doesn’t particularly find the jokes funny and he now refuses point blank to ever get killed off. But as he’s due to have a much more prominent role than the teaser we got in the final episode of the first season, it’ll be interesting to see how long his ‘no dying’ rule lasts for. Anybody who has seen a single episode of Snowpiercer knows that not everybody lasts that long.
