The first look at Rachel Zegler as Snow White in costume for Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has been revealed. Zegler recently starred in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story before nabbing the role as the famed Disney princess in the latest live-action adaptation of their animated classics. The film is directed by The Amazing Spider-Man's Marc Webb and stars Zegler, Andrew Burnap, and Wonder Woman's Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is based on the Grimm Fairy Tale of the same name and was originally adapted in 1937 by Disney, becoming the first-ever full-length feature animated film and a beloved classic in the genre. The story tells of a maiden living with her stepmother, the Evil Queen, who is threatened by the young girl's beauty. When a magic mirror tells the Evil Queen that Snow White is "the fairest of them all" the Evil Queen orders a Huntsman to take her to the forest and kill her. However, he cannot bring himself to do it and allows her to escape into the woods, where she is befriended by seven dwarfs who take her in and live harmoniously until the Evil Queen finds out she's alive and attempts to kill her again with a poisoned apple.

Snow White has had a number of live-action adaptations over the years, but never one of the classic animated film. Kristen Stewart played the titular character in 2012's Snow White and The Huntsman, which was a darker, more violent take on the property that had Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen and Thor's Chris Hemsworth as The Huntsman. A sequel was made in 2016 that focused on The Huntsman, leaving Snow White out entirely. Also in 2012, director Tarsem Singh did a more whimsical adaptation called Mirror, Mirror, which starred Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen and Lily Collins as Snow White, with Armie Hammer as the Prince. The film was a dud at the box office, leaving 2012 as the last time the character of Snow White was featured in live-action.

Zegler is an inspired choice to play Snow White, looking every bit a perfect representation of Disney's first animated princess. The actress showed immense skill and charisma in West Side Story, which will come in handy for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, as it will feature singing and dancing throughout. Disney has shown no signs of slowing down in adapting their animated properties and tackling their first-ever animated film will be a big endeavor that hopefully lives up to the classic film's reputation. Zegler's outfit shows promise in that arena, which will surely bring a smile to the faces of audiences everywhere when Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is released sometime in 2023.
