Warning: This feature contains spoilers for Snow White with the Red Hair Volume 12

Prince Izana is finally taking the throne while Zen and Shirayuki face their greatest relationship obstacle yet in the latest volume of Snow White with the Red Hair. Up to this point, the main character Shirayuki has faced many challenges ranging all the way from being pressured to become the personal concubine of Prince Raj to being kidnapped by pirates, but eventually she achieved her goal of becoming the official court herbalist for her adopted home in the kingdom of Clarines.

Snow White with the Red Hair focuses on Shirayuki, an herbalist with unique red hair that attracts attention and often gets her into trouble. Originally serialized in the shojo magazine, LaLa, the series has been compiled into 22 volumes so far in Japan. In 2015, the series received its first anime adaptation produced by studio BONES. It got a second season in 2016, which mostly focused on The Claw of the Sea story arc. Snow White with the Red Hair volume 12 will be released on the Shojo Beat imprint on March 2.

In volume twelve of the manga series, there are two big events that will shock audiences to the core. First, the long-awaited coronation of Prince Izana takes place. This event has been talked about in previous volumes, but this volume finally shows us Izana taking his place as the official ruler of Clarines. This proves interesting for multiple reasons including Shirayuki being tasked with being the host for Prince Raj, who continues to show new sides to himself with every single appearance. The second, much larger event occurs in the middle of the volume when it is revealed that because of work, Shirayuki and Zen are going to be separated. Will they be able to make their relationship work despite being in two completely different cities?

As with previous volumes, author Akiduki makes the most of her allotted space with tons of wonderfully drawn panels that aren’t clouded by too many speech bubbles. Letting the artwork express more emotions and feelings than mere words ever could, which will leave the audience breathless by the time they reach the cliffhanger ending. Using artwork instead of words does a fantastic job of "showing not telling," which in a visual form like manga brings readers into the story even more than they already and allow them to feel the pain of Zen and Shirayuki as they come to grips with the reality of not seeing each other again for potentially a very long time.

It's impossible to predict what these two characters will do next. How will Zen react when he sees Shirayuki next? Will they be able to find their happily ever after at some point? The events of the latest volume will not disappoint fans who have stuck with Snow White with the Red Hair so far and should definitely pick up this volume when it hits shelves on March 2nd.
