'Snow White and the Huntsman' German Trailer & TV Trailer

With both Jack the Giant Killer and Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters having been knocked out of the 2012 movie lineup, the stage is now set for Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman to become not only the great fairy tale re-envisioning of the year - but also, one of the more entertaining and action-packed fantasy blockbusters to hit the scene.

Today, we have a new German-dubbed theatrical preview for the Brothers Grimm retelling, along with a minute-long English-language TV preview. Both only feature bits of not-yet-seen footage sprinkled here and there, but the new material is tantalizing enough (ex. Charlize Theron's evil queen, preparing to take her... uh, milk bath?) that it should help tide everyone over, until the next official domestic trailer for Huntsman is released.

Snow White and the Huntsman sees Twilight starlet Kristen Stewart settle down into a more engaging character role as the eponymous princess, who has the potential to one day become "the fairest in the land." That doesn't sit so well with Queen Ravenna (Theron), the kingdom's cruel matriarch who both rules over her subjects with an iron fist and sustains her beautiful facade by magically draining the life force from younger women.

Ravenna eventually recruits a loner hunstman (Chris Hemsworth) to track down and capture Snow White. That plan backfires when Miss White's would-be killer instead trains her in the art of combat and, along with a band of seven warrior dwarfs, helps her lead a militaristic rebellion against the queen's forces.

All things considered, Snow White and the Huntsman has a lot going for it. The film boasts a screenplay originally penned by relative newcomer Evan Daugherty and polished off by Oscar-nominee Hossein Amini (Drive); it also marks the feature-length directorial debut of Rupert Sanders, who was responsible for crafting some pretty visually-dazzling commercials for video games like Halo 3 and is working with cinematographer Greig Fraser (Bright Star, Let Me In) on Huntsman. And of course, the film features what looks like a wonderfully wicked turn from Oscar-winner Charlize Theron, along with Hemsworth portraying another charismatic badass and Stewart getting to play what should actually be a good female character.

That's all to say: the ingredients are all there for Snow White and the Huntsman to be a solid fairy tale revamping that features good acting and writing, along with some stellar eye candy. Here's hoping those individual pieces get mixed appropriately, so that the final product proves to be something worth admiring.

Snow White and the Huntsman hits theaters in the U.S. on June 1st, 2012.
