During Pokémon GO’s Greedy Gluttons event, players will be able to battle the Normal-type Pokémon Snorlax in three-star Raids in their local Gyms. First introduced as one of the original 151 Pokémon, Snorlax is well-known among fans for its tendency to sleep in inconvenient locations, blocking players from progressing further in multiple Pokémon games across the generations. However, while its usually mellow and sleepy nature has made it popular with fans, it’s also a challenging and tough-to-beat Raid Pokémon in Pokémon GO. As such, players will want to assemble a team of strong Fighting-type Pokémon to battle this particular heavy hitter and reap the rewards.

Pokémon GO’s Greedy Gluttons event will run from November 9th through to November 23rd, shining the spotlight on the franchise’s strongest and heaviest Pokémon. Aside from appearing more frequently in the wild, Snorlax will also appear as a three-star Raid Pokémon in players’ local Gyms during this time. A Pokémon GO Raid occurs when a Pokémon takes over a Gym, allowing players to gather together and battle it to receive special rewards and a chance at adding a rare Pokémon to their collections. In contrast to five-star raids and Mega Raids, skilled Pokémon Trainers will likely be able to tackle a three-star Raid solo, as long as they have a full roster of Pokémon with the correct type matchups.

The Best Counters & Movesets For Snorlax In Pokémon GO

Pokemon Go Sleeping Snorlax Official Art

As a Normal-type Pokémon, Snorlax is immune to Ghost-type moves, so players should avoid Ghost-type Pokémon such as Pokémon GO’s Mega Banette. As the Normal-type is only weak to the Fighting-type, players should generally prioritize hard-hitting Fighting-type Pokémon. However, Snorlax has a variety of different movesets, some of which include Psychic, Ghost, Dragon, Ground, and even Fighting-type moves, making finding good matchups tricky. According to Pokébattler, these Pokémon are among the best counters players can include when facing Snorlax:

Notes

Shadow Machamp

Fast Move: Counter Charged Move: Dynamic Punch

Machamp has several movesets with powerful Fighting-type moves that do supereffective damage to the Normal-type Snorlax. However, players should watch out for Snorlax’s Zen Headbutt, a Psychic-type move that will do extra damage to Machamp.

Mega Alakazam

Fast Move: Counter Charged Move: Focus Blast

Players can obtain Mega Alakazam in Pokémon GO’s Mega Alakazam Raid. While it can learn strong Fighting-type moves, players should be careful of Snorlax’s Ghost-type Lick move, which will do supereffective damage against Mega Alakazam.

Shadow Hariyama

Fast Move: Counter Charged Move: Dynamic Punch

A hard-hitting pure Fighting-type Pokémon. Players should be wary of Zen Headbutt as Psychic-type moves do extra damage to Fighting-type Pokémon.

Lucario

Fast Move: Counter Charged Move: Aura Sphere

Lucario’s Fighting/Steel typing means it’s weak to Fighting and Ground-type moves. However, although Snorlax can use both Superpower (Fighting-type) and Earthquake (Ground-type), both moves only rarely appear. In addition, Lucario can generally resist Snorlax’s Normal, Psychic, Ghost, Stee,l, and Dragon-type moves.

Conkeldurr

Fast Move: Counter

Conkeldurr is one of Pokémon GO’s strongest Fighting-type Pokémon due to its moveset and high attack stat. However, players should watch out for Snorlax’s Zen Headbutt Psychic-type move.

Pokémon GO’s Snorlax can be difficult to tackle due to the varied moveset that allows it to deal super effective damage against Fighting-type Pokémon. Generally speaking, players should prioritize their hardest hitters and unconventional picks in a Snorlax Raid, as they may find themselves engaging in an intense battle of attrition. Players should also consider playing with friends, as Pokémon GO’s three-star raids are less challenging when multiple players participate.
