Some Snapchat users are currently experiencing an issue where they are presented with a “something went wrong” error message when attempting to access the app. It remains unclear what is causing the app crashes, just how many people are affected, or when a full fix will become available. However, Snapchat has confirmed the problem and is currently working on a solution. In the meantime, it might be worth reverting to an older version of the app, if possible.

Like most smartphone apps, Snapchat is no stranger to encountering issues and problems. On occasion, the Snapchat service has gone down, resulting in the inability to send messages or the user encountering general performance issues. In other cases, specific features can stop working, such as the camera. Considering how popular Snapchat is, whether an issue arises with the app in general or a specific feature, it can have the potential to impact on plenty of people.

A number of Snapchat users have taken to social media today to report a problem when accessing the app. Essentially, they are presented with a message stating that something has gone wrong which stops them from using the app as normal. Following the wave of initial user reports, Snapchat sent out its own message on Twitter confirming there is a problem and that it is working on a solution, albeit without any ETA on when a fix will become available.

Something Went Wrong, But Only On iPhone

Although not confirmed, Snapchat’s social media post suggests the problem is specifically related to the iOS app. An update to the iPhone and iPad app was released today through the App Store with the 11.34.0.35 version changlog simply noting the inclusion of generic “bug fixes.” While it remains to be seen if this update is the cause of the problem, it is a possibility. If the update is the problem, then it also might be possible that rolling back to a previous version could temporarily fix the issue. For reference, the Google Play Store lists the most recent Android app update as arriving on June 26, and there doesn’t seem to be any real user complaints yet about a similar Android issue, further suggesting the problem relates to the latest iOS app update.

Regardless of whether it is specific to iPhone and iPad, Snapchat is aware of their issue and it should be expected that a fix will roll out in due course. If the problem is directly tied to the latest update, then it is likely Snapchat will release another iOS app update with a patch for the issue. Therefore, users that have already updated to the latest version may want to keep an eye on the App Store for another Snapchat iPhone and iPad update in the coming hours and days.
