One of the many fun Snapchat+ features is Friend Solar Systems that categorizes Snapchat friends based on how often they interact on the platform. In late June 2022, Snap launched a subscription service called Snapchat+ with "exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features" for subscribers. Some of the notable new features include the ability to change the app icon, see who re-watched a story, and pin a friend to the top of a chat history as a 'BFF.'

The Snapchat+ Friend Solar System shows a 'Best Friends' or 'Friends' badge with a gold ring around it on the Friendship Profiles of other users. The badges are a fun representation of who a user interacts with the most on the platform. 'Best Friends' means that the two users are among each other's eight closest friends on Snapchat, while a 'Friends' badge implies that they are one of the eight closest friends of the other person, but the other person is not one of theirs.

Tapping on the badge will show the Snapchat+ subscriber exactly how close their friendship is with their Best Friend. To make things interesting, friendships are denoted by planets and their distance from the sun. The way this works is, when a user taps on a 'Best Friends' badge, it shows them which planet they are in their best friend's solar system.

As can be seen from the official Friendmoji guide, if the Best Friend is the sun and the user is Earth, it means that they're the other person's third-closest friend on the platform. If a user is someone's closest friend on the platform, they will be represented by the red-hot Mercury friendmoji. Similarly, if they're the second-closest friend of that user, they'll be represented by Venus. If the user is someone's eighth-best friend, they will be the farthest from the sun and will be represented by icy cold Neptune. In between, there are badges representing all the other planets in the solar system, including Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus.

Naturally, since the feature rolled out for Snapchat+ users, other users of the app have wondered if it’s available to them, too. Snap has been known to eventually bring some of its premium Snapchat features to the entire userbase after an exclusive trial period. It did this most recently with My AI, which was initially only available to Snapchat+ users before launching to everyone in April 2023. Unfortunately, the Friend Solar System hasn’t gotten the same treatment, and for now can only be accessed with the paid Snapchat+ membership. Overall, the Friend Solar System is a cool new feature, and all the more incentive for power users to sign up for Snapchat+.
