The first trailer for Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is officially releasing this Sunday. It has been nearly eight years since the last live-action G.I. Joe movie hit theaters, and Paramount Pictures is finally gearing up to deliver a new adventure. Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding is playing Snake Eyes in the upcoming solo movie that serves as a hard reboot of the popular Hasbro toys on the big screen. This new direction begins with the origin story of Snake Eyes, with Robert Schwentke directing the new attempt at a G.I. Joe movie franchise.

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins was originally set to release in theaters in early March 2020, but those plans shifted once COVID-19 became a worldwide pandemic that shut down theaters for months. Paramount eventually settled on Snake Eyes' current July 2021 release date after several delays. As excited as fans are to see the movie's release date nearing again, many are waiting to see a proper first look at it. Now, after the release of the first photos and a motion poster, the release date for the first trailer is confirmed.

As part of the release of the motion poster showing Golding in Snake Eyes' new movie costume, Paramount confirmed the first Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins trailer will be released on Sunday, May 16. The trailer will debut during the MTV Movie and TV Awards show at 9 pm EST, and it should be online immediately after to provide fans with the first footage from the highly anticipated film.

The release of Snake Eyes' trailer will come on the heels of multiple character reveals. Images from the movie gave the first look at Golding as Snake Eyes, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, Haruka Abe as Akiko, and Úrsula Corberó as The Baroness. The decision to highlight each of them already should be a sign that each of them will appear in the upcoming trailer. But, the Snake Eyes trailer could also include some first looks at additional characters like Iko Uwais' Hard Master and Peter Mensah's Blind Master.

Once the Snake Eyes trailer is released, it will be intriguing to see the tone that the movie strikes and what the actual story is. Plenty of fans will want to see glimpses of the movie's action sequences and how it is improving upon what past G.I. Joe movies did. If Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins' trailer shows promise, then this could be the franchise starter that Paramount is surely hoping it becomes. But, the trailer won't confirm the film's quality one way or the other, so fans will have to wait and see the final product this summer.
