A dedicated Super Smash Bros Ultimate player has created the perfect victory screen for Halo’s Master Chief, one that stops just short of revealing his true face to the world. Fans have been asking for the Master Chief to appear as a guest fighter in Nintendo’s massive crossover fighting extravaganza. So far the game has seen special appearances from outside characters like Final Fantasy VII’s Sephiroth and Tekken hero/villain Kazuya Mishima over the past couple of years.

Players aren’t the only ones who would like to see Master Chief go toe-to-toe with Mario and friends in Super Smash Bros Ultimate either, as Halo Community Director Brian "ske7ch" Jarrard recently expressed disappointment that the Spartan hero wasn’t revealed as Ultimate’s newest guest fighter at June’s E3 2021 livestream event. Additionally, former Halo composer Marty O'Donnell is excited at the idea of remixing some of the long-running sci-fi FPS series’s music tracks for Master Chief’s hypothetical appearance in Smash Bros. That isn’t getting into the various mods and fan-animations players have made to either put Master Chief in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Mii costume or imagine his potential moveset.

Recently picking up some steam, Halo and Super Smash Bros Ultimate fan TheDemoScout shared a fan-made image of what Master Chief's victory screen would look like on Twitter. The edited screenshot shows the Spartan super-soldier standing triumphant after an apparent win against Banjo-Kazooie’s titular duo and Steve from Minecraft, with his iconic Spartan helmet held to his side. Unfortunately, fans can’t see what John-117 looks like behind the green and gold helm, as his unmasked face is left conveniently out of frame.

The Master Chief might not be coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate anytime soon, but players will get their chance to control the gruff-voiced savior of the universe once more in Halo Infinite. Finally, Halo Infinite launches on Xbox consoles in December. Not only that, but the Chief will make the jump to television in the upcoming Halo television series, which is set to air on Paramount+ at some unrevealed point next year and promises to show previously unexplored aspects of the legendary Spartan hero.

Still, some fans are left wishing for Master Chief to make a guest appearance in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, given his status as one of the most iconic faces of gaming. The chances of Halo’s hard-boiled hero facing off against the likes of Mario or Metroid’s Samus remain slim, but if he were to appear in Nintendo’s cross-brand fighting game it wouldn’t be hard to imaging his victory screen playing out like the one rendered by TheDemoScout – down to players never seeing the human face behind the Master Chief’s signature helmet.
