Fans of Smash Bros Ultimate continue to cling to any bit of news as some sort of divine sign that a new DLC character reveal is imminent, following the confirmation that physical Fighters Pass Vol. 2 cards are set to arrive at the end of March in Japan. To be fair, Smash fans have had a challenging time lately, with Nintendo remaining mum on future content. The house of Mario wasn't even willing to reveal the last character until it was just weeks away from release, which left fans quite disappointed with the confirmation that the combatant would be yet another Fire Emblem hero in the form of Three Houses' Byleth.

Despite that fan-percieved miss, Nintendo has done some incredible things with third-party studios for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Securing characters like Persona 5's Joker, Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard, Dragon Quest's Hero, and even the Microsoft-owned Banjo and Kazooie for inclusion within the crossover fighting game has been a thrill for gamers to witness. All of those choices have fans speculating on who could be next, and now followers of the fight title seem to think the latest newcomer reveal is imminent.

The official website for Super Smash Bros in Japan updated recently to confirm that fans will be able to pick up a code for Ultimate's Fighters Pass Vol. 2 from retailers beginning on Monday, March 23. The availability of the physical card for the next batch of content isn't anything new, as the first Fighters Pass was given the same treatment. However, fans now believe that a character reveal is forthcoming (alongside a new Nintendo Direct presentation) in order to drive sales of the pass.

Truth be told, this excitement is sure to stem from the fact that many Nintendo fans have been chomping at the bit for some sort of presentation. March has been pegged by several "insiders" for a month likely to host the next Nintendo Direct, but February was given the same treatment. Those reports didn't bear fruit, so it's difficult to say if March will be much different.

With other public showcases like E3 2020 now up in the air due to concerns with coronavirus, there's really no definitive date for Nintendo to make anticipated announcements – the next Smash character reveal being chief among them. With this next season of Smash DLC set to be its last, here's hoping Nintendo is ensuring that Ultimate goes out with a bang rather than a whimper.
