After years of anticipation, Sora from Kingdom Hearts will officially join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Shortly after Sora's DLC was announced, Square Enix revealed that the Kingdom Hearts All-in-One collection will be available on the Nintendo Switch. The collection includes Sora's entire adventure, from Kingdom Hearts Final Mix to Kingdom Hearts 3, along with every journey in between. The release of the games will be a Cloud Version instead of a traditional port, but this means Kingdom Hearts will be playable on the PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo soon.

Kingdom Hearts was originally released in 2002 as a PlayStation 2 exclusive. The game had a unique concept of combining the world of Disney with Square Enix properties like Final Fantasy. The story follows Sora, a chosen Keyblade wielder set on an adventure to find his lost friends, which eventually leads him into battles with famous Disney villains. Throughout nearly twenty years, the franchise has grown considerably. Multiple prequels and sequel games were released predominantly on PlayStation consoles, but Nintendo had a few releases as well.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories was initially a Game Boy Advance exclusive until it was remade for the PlayStation 2.  Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days was also made for the Nintendo 3DS and continues to remain an exclusive game there (although its cinematics and cutscenes arrived on later Remix ports and collections). Square Enix later brought Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 Remix to PlayStation 3 and later ported the games onto the PS4. While the third game was still in production, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 was released as a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

How Kingdom Hearts Went From A PlayStation Exclusive To Different Consoles

Kingdom Hearts Trilogy Coming To Nintendo Switch

As most Kingdom Hearts games remained on PlayStation consoles, Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced for the Xbox One as well. This was the first time a core game from the franchise was released outside the PlayStation. A year after Kingdom Hearts 3's release, Square Enix released the All-in-One collection for PS4 and Xbox One, which contains Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 Remix, 2.8, and the third game. The collection was later ported to PC, growing the game's availability across multiple platforms.

The latest game, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, was then surprisingly announced and released on all three platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. Up until recently, the Nintendo Switch never had any Kingdom Hearts-related games released on the console. Now that Sora is joining the Smash Bros. roster and Square Enix confirmed Kingdom Hearts coming to the Switch, the series has officially spread across multiple platforms for all gamers to enjoy.

It is important to remember that the Nintendo Switch release is only a Cloud version, meaning it's only a streaming version. Despite the pros and cons of using the Nintendo Cloud Streaming, the Kingdom Hearts collection is not a port. No official release date has been announced for the games, but more information may be revealed during the Kingdom Hearts 20th-Anniversary event, and Sora will arrive in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate soon.
