The list of fitness-oriented smart wearables grows longer with the new TrainNTrack Ankle Weights. Fitness trackers and smartwatches are the most popular wearables for people looking to track their exercises. However, there are other products available on the market for tracking a workout or improving training such as smart running shoes or something like a tracking vest.

Ankle weights are known to help with exercises targeting the muscles in the hips and legs. The addition of the extra weight allows for stronger muscles in these areas as there is extra work to be done to lift the legs and move the hips. Sportneer wants to help users track and improve their workouts with its first-of-its-kind smart ankle weights.

With a recommended retail price of $99, according to a press release, what makes the TrainNTrack Ankle Weights smart is the addition of a 6-axis gyroscope and a heart rate chip. The former measures the rate of turn and acceleration in addition to the movements during a workout. With the heart rate monitor, the ankle weights can track not only fatigue but also notify users via vibration if the heart rate crosses the normal level so that they can take a break. The recorded data can be viewed on a companion app that is available for both iOS and Android devices. Those who want to focus on their arms can also pick up the ankle weights, as Sportneer shows on the Kickstarter page that the weights can be worn on the wrists.

Sportneer is offering more than just ankle weights. The free companion app not only displays recorded metrics but also contains 8 training lessons and 71 different exercises, all of which can be accessed without a subscription and with a promise of new ones added monthly. The app also has a scoring system for each workout, and the user's accuracy determines the score. The ankle weights are available in different colors and in different sizes. They are designed to be comfortable for users as it contains soft iron sand stuffing that lets the weights hold their shape. Sportneer also claims the velcros and hook-and-loop fasteners should make the TrainNTrack Ankle Weights stay in place whether they are on your ankles or wrists.

While the TrainNTrack Ankle Weights offer a lot of features, they won't ship by January 2022 if it fails to meet its crowdfunding goal next month. Nevertheless, there are a plethora of smart wearables to choose from, some of which are small enough to fit on a finger.
