Wonder Woman never appeared in Smallville, but the Superman prequel series did at least include a few references to the iconic DC superhero. The Amazon princess was just one of a handful of top-tier DC superheroes who never crossed paths with Tom Welling’s Clark Kent until the Smallville Season 11 comic.
Over the course of Clark’s journey to becoming the Man of Steel, he encountered a wide variety of heroes and villains from DC Comics, starting with Kyle Gallner’s Bart Allen (the fourth version of the Flash) in Smallville season 4. This was the beginning of a tradition which saw Smallville introduce at least one major hero every season. Bart Allen’s debut was followed by guest appearances from Cyborg (Lee Thompson Young) and Aquaman (Alan Ritchson) in season 5. Green Arrow (Justin Hartley) joined the fold in season 6 and formed the Justice League. During the show’s last five seasons, Clark met Martian Manhunter (Phil Morris), Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), the Justice Society, the Wonder Twins, and more.
Despite the long list of DC characters that Clark and his friends were able to interact with, there were a few big omissions, usually because of DC’s restrictions. Smallville never did use Batman, Green Lantern, Barry Allen, Wally West, or Wonder Woman. In the case of Wonder Woman, she was a character the writers and producers wanted to use in the early seasons, but DC’s intentions to make a film about her stood in the way. Regardless, Smallville was able to drop four Wonder Woman Easter eggs.
Lex Luthor’s Future In Season 1
Back when Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) was still a good person, he went to an old blind woman who could see the future just by touching someone’s hand. Her vision of Lex’s future showed him standing amidst a field of corpses. Among the dead were several DC Comics Easter eggs, including Batman’s suit, Wonder Woman’s bracelets, and her tiara.
Queen Hippolyta
In a Smallville season 3 episode, Lex was locked up in in a mental institution when one of the patients brought along a cart full of newspapers. One of the headlines included the words “Themiscyran Queen”. This was a reference to the Queen of the Amazons in Themiscyra and Wonder Woman’s mother, Hippolyta.
Lois Lane In Wonder Woman’s Costume
To investigate a story, Clark and Lois Lane (Erica Durance) visited a comic book convention in season 9. While there, Lois dressed up as an “Amazon princess” by wearing a costume that looked identical to Wonder Woman’s. It even came with her trademark lasso.
Chloe Mentions Wonder Woman In Season 10
Chloe (Allison Mack) spent some time away from Smallville during season 10 and when she returned, she told Clark that she met with other superheroes like him, including a “a billionaire with high tech toys and a wondrous woman who’s gonna throw you for a loop”. The first person Chloe mentioned is likely Batman, but the way she phrases her description of the second person leaves little room for doubt about their identity. Chloe’s conversation with Clark all but confirmed that Wonder Woman exists somewhere in Smallville’s universe.
