Supergirl is joining the DCEU and when it comes to adapting the costume, Smallville is a great source of inspiration for her cinematic look. One of the big upcoming DC films is The Flash that will be a huge chapter for the DCEU. Not only does Barry Allen finally get his long-awaited feature film, but it will be exploring time travel and the Multiverse for the DCEU. While the movie will be a slight adaptation of the infamous DC storyline, Flashpoint, it will be unique to the DCEU. Not only will Ezra Miller's Scarlet Speedster get to take center stage, but he'll be joined by several different DC characters, both old and new ones.

The Flash will feature not one, but two different versions of Batman as Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton are reprising their respective iterations. However, a new iconic character is jumping from the page to the screen. Director Andy Muschietti revealed that Sasha Calle has officially been cast as Supergirl in the DCEU, but details about her character have yet to be revealed. Since the film is now in production, details will hopefully soon begin to emerge.

But as Warner Bros. adapts Supergirl to the big screen for the second time since 1984 with Helen Slater's film, they'll also be bringing her costume to life. Despite Muschietti, when breaking the news to Calle, held up a Man of Steel-costume to demonstrate that she'd be playing one of iconic House of El members, she'll likely be getting her own look. The DCEU always manages to do their own spin on the iconic outfits while also drawing a bit from the source material. Just like most superheroes in comics, Supergirl has had a variety of costumes throughout her history. But if the costume designers were looking at any specific iterations, Smallville actually has a perfect design that is ready for a live-action debut.

Smallville-Season-11-Supergirl-Costume-DCEU

While Laura Vandervoort's version of Kara Zor-El never had a proper costume while Smallville was airing, the Season 11 comic gave the heroine her Supergirl suit. In the chapter "Argo," it's revealed that Kara now lives in the 31st century as a Legion of Super-Heroes member. Since Kara began operating fully as Supergirl, she began sporting a new uniform that became a unique look to Clark's Superman suit. Rather than the traditional cape and skirt, her costume comes with a long cape that has a cape-form to it while also maintaining a sense of futuristic design. Even though it may have not been the intention, the Smallville season 11 design does feel like something that would match the DCEU's Kryptonian formal wear that Man of Steel established.

In many ways, it would give Kara a new live-action feel to her just like Supergirl season 5 did when Melissa Benoist's Girl of Steel got a new costume. While Smallville's Kara will likely never be seen again in live-action, the DCEU should adapt her Season 11 uniform. Even if Henry Cavill's Superman doesn't show up in The Flash, it'd visually compelling to see him and Calle's Supergirl having their own distinct looks when/if they ever share the screen together. It'd be different looks, but still, come from the same basis that fans got to see on Krypton in Man of Steel. Hopefully, Supergirl's DCEU suit will be revealed sooner rather than later, and ideally, it'll have a unique look like Smallville's version did.
