Smallville: Season Nine Finale Preview

Smallville Season Finale

While tonight’s episode of Smallville sees the return of illusive-mother Martha Kent with her new boyfriend Perry White in tow, there’s no doubt that the fans are looking to the future – next week, to be specific – and the Smallville season finale.

The war of a lifetime between Kal-El and Zod, is finally upon us again, but this time there’s no need for a Lex Luthor vessel. The General Zod we all know (and love) has yet to materialize, but as the season progressed, the existing Major Zod continuously shows signs of his destined path.

With a tenth season of Smallville already on the books, lets take a look at what lies in store for us in the ninth season finale. The episode, entitled “Salvation”, will not only feature a battle between Kryptonians, but also the return of a few familiar faces.

“Zod (Callum Blue) unleashes his army upon the world, forcing Chloe (Allison Mack) to call in reinforcements from old friends. Zod tells Lois (Erica Durance) he is The Blur and asks her to steal the Book of Rao from Clark (Tom Welling). Torn between Clark and The Blur, Lois asks Clark to come clean with her about everything but he refuses. Chloe (Allison Mack) and Oliver (Justin Hartley) attempt to reconnect Watchtower's satellite system in order to fight the Kandorians but to Chloe's horror, Oliver gets caught on site and disappears. Tess attempts to stop Zod but he leaves her clinging to life. Clark and Zod battle for control of Earth.”

Considering this is the final episode of the season and we’ve been told that the Justice Society will return before the end of the ninth season, there’s no doubt about who these “old friends” will be. Now, if we only knew which of these “old friends” they're talking about. The nerd inside me can’t stop giggling in anticipation.

Take a look at the season finale photo gallery below (sans “old friends”):

While the past season of Smallville has been somewhat hit (“Pandora,” “Absolute Justice") or miss ("Rabid," "Checkmate"), I have no doubt that the ninth season finale will lean toward the former, rather than the latter. Hopefully, this will help quell some of the critics who are against Smallville having a tenth season.

But, you can’t please everyone…

Are you excited about the Smallville season finale? Do you think Dr. Fate will return? Is there a chance that Clark will fly? (Yeah, I know, but I had to ask.)

Catch the season finale of Smallville, May 14 @8pm, on The CW.
