Despite being the main hero on Smallville, Clark Kent (Tom Welling) never actually encountered the show's season 4 villain, Genevieve Teague. Played by well-known Hollywood actress Jane Seymour, Genevieve was the mother of Lana Lang’s boyfriend, Jason (Jensen Ackles), and a foe of the Luthors.

The formula typically used in the Superman prequel series would involve one character serving as the primary threat to Clark and his friends for the length of a season. This started in season 3, with the rich and powerful Lionel Luthor (John Glover) being the main antagonist. Over the course of the series, Clark would also spend long arcs fighting Brainiac (James Marsters), Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) himself, Doomsday (Sam Witwer), Major Zod (Callum Blue), and the forces of Darkseid.

Interestingly, Clark never met season 4’s Genevieve Teague, even though both were trying to accomplish the same mission, which was to acquire all three Kryptonian Stones of Power. These stones, which had been scattered across the world, had been sought after by the Teague family for generations. Clark was after them as well, since Jor-El had ordered him to find them. Also thrust into this season-long story was Lana (Kristin Kreuk), Lex, Lionel, and Jason, who all had an interest in finding the Stones.

Genevieve immediately took an interest in Lana, who was connected to this mystery through her ancestor, a witch named Isobel Thoreaux. Her search for the Stones led her to share a number of interactions with Lionel, Lex, and Jason, but none were with Clark, the character whose destiny was tied to the Stones. In fact, Genevieve only mentioned Clark a couple of times, and never found out that he was more than just a farm boy and Lana’s ex-boyfriend. What she knew about him must have come from digging into Lana’s past, since she never met him in-person. That’s because Smallville season 4 carefully shielded Clark from the other characters’ stories, possibly to protect his secret. Lex, Lionel, Lana, and Genevieve were all aware of each other, but remained oblivious to Clark’s importance until the season 4 finale.

During season 4, she acted as an antagonist to Lex, Lana, and Lionel. Genevieve was secretly allied with Jason, and she was willing to do whatever it took to get her hands on the Stones. Because of that, she served as a formidable antagonist to both of the Luthors. Before she could have a showdown with her real rival for the Stones (Clark Kent), though, her ruthless crusade came to a halt in the season 4 finale when she was killed by a possessed Lana Lang. As a result, Clark was spared any part in this particular storyline, as Lana was then able to simply hand the Stone over to him. After slipping into the mansion and stealing Lex’s Stone, Clark completed his quest, saved Smallville from destruction, and created the Fortress of Solitude. It was disappointing though, that Smallville never saved time for at least one fateful meeting between Genevieve Teague and the Last Son of Krypton.
