Smallville's Laura Vandervoort wishes Supergirl's time on the show had ended differently. Smallville focused on the life of a young Clark Kent (Tom Welling) before he became Superman. The show also spotlighted many familiar characters from Superman's world, including Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk), Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), and Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.

Smallville introduces Supergirl as Clark's cousin from Krypton. She crash lands on Earth when in a state of suspended animation; thus, Kara doesn't wake up for another 18 years. When her ship is found by Clark and Lois (Erica Durance), Kara is devastated to learn of Krypton's destruction. That being said, she manages to slowly adjust to life in Smallville, although she does find certain Earth customs strange. Throughout the show, Kara also demonstrates that she has similar powers to Clark, including heat vision, super hearing, super strength, and flight.

At the New York Comic Con Smallville reunion panel, Vandervoort reveals that she wishes Supergirl's story could have concluded differently. Vandervoort expresses her disappointment that Kara didn't have a larger role in the series finale. Also, she says she wanted Kara to at least have been able to say good-bye to many of the show's characters instead of just flying away. You can check out Vandervoort's full quote on Kara's Smallville ending below:

"I have said publicly before that I wish Kara was in more of the finale, at the wedding... she didn't really have closure. She just sort of flew off and we never saw her again. It would have been nice for myself personally, and I think for the character to have goodbyes. I didn't have any proper goodbyes."

This isn't the first time that Vandervoort has spoken up about Kara's treatment on the show. Vandervoort also highlighted her distaste for Supergirl's wardrobe on the same panel, stating that she would have liked to burn all of Kara's clothes once filming had wrapped. While on Smallville, Vandervoort mostly cycled through various crop topsmost of which seemed to do nothing but sexualize her character. As a result, it's easy to see where the actress' critiques come from; all in all, it's overwhelmingly clear that Kara's final appearance on the show wasn't the only frustrating Smallville experience that Vandervoort had.

Vandervoort's comments show that Smallville showrunners made their fair share of missteps when creating and fleshing out Kara's character. That being said, it's somewhat uplifting to know that Melissa Benoist's Kara had her own time to shine as the titular character of the CW's SupergirlRegardless, though, Vandervoort did her best with what she had to work with. However, it's still disheartening for fans to realize that Kara Zor-El wasn't as fully developed as she could have been on Smallville.
