The first set images from Netflix's adventure movie Slumberland show Jason Momoa with a giant set of horns. Momoa, star of the Aquaman franchise, is best known for playing large, intimidating men in muscular franchises and TV series. After early roles in Baywatch: Hawaii and Stargate Atlantis, Momoa's season 1 turn as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, for which he bulked up by binging on pizza, established him as a star on the rise.

The actor has since gone on to appear in a number of TV series like Frontier and See, as well as starring in DC Extended Universe movies like Justice League. Momoa will next be seen as Duncan Idaho in Dune. But his latest role is more of a family-friendly one, appearing in Slumberland for Netflix, which is loosely based on a series of comic books by Winsor McCay from the early 1900s called Little Nemo in Slumberland. Directed by The Hunger Games' Francis Lawrence, Slumberland also stars Kyle Chandler, Chris O'Dowd, Marlow Barkley, Weruche Opia and India de Beaufort. Now, the first set images have been released.

Netflix revealed two set images from Slumberland via Twitter. The first shows Momoa hiding in a closet, which in the comics is the way to Slumberland. The second image gives a better look at Momoa in character, including the massive set of curving horns on his head. The image shows him and co-star Barkley, who plays Nema, a gender-swapped version of Little Nemo, next to some sort of vehicle in front of a green screen. You can see the images below:

Momoa's horns are indeed impressive, especially considering he's clearly shooting with practical prosthetics, rather than having them added with CGI in post-production. But while the horns are certainly a surprising new look for Momoa, the rest of his costume is rather fitting. The actor is known for sporting colorful looks on the red carpet. Add in his trademark beard and long hair, and it seems like he's been perfectly cast as the outlaw in Slumberland.

The images also confirm filming on the adventure movie is well underway, and the tone is clearly one of high fantasy that should appeal to all ages. It's a shift both for Lawrence, who got his feature start with Constantine, and Momoa, who has always aimed for more adult-leaning material. But that doesn't mean Slumberland won't be good, and it certainly has the cast and creative team to prove successful. Audiences will find out either way when the film releases in 2022.
