Tyler Burton Smith, a writer of the Child's Play reboot, as well as the up-and-coming artist Vanessa Cardinali, are teaming up to create the Image Comics series Slumber. The ongoing series will begin in March and doubles as both a horror and thriller comic.

In addition to Child's Play, Smith also penned the upcoming movie Kung Fury 2, which features Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the president. He previously wrote the epic story of Quantum Break, the video game. Cardinali worked on the digital comic book Clonsters from Space Between Entertainment. Together, they're creating a paranormal comic book that promises to make dreams as deadly as they were in Nightmare on Elm Street.

The official press release from Image Comics announced that the ongoing Slumber comic book will release its first issue in March 2022. The series introduces a dream detective and nightmare hunter by the name of Stetson. She kills people's nightmares (for a fee) to give them restful sleep. However, she will be coming face-to-face with a serial killer who is killing people in their dreams. Considering there are plenty of things that still hold up about Nightmare on Elm Street today, this concept can clearly leave a lasting impression. The four covers and four interior pages above are from the first issue of Slumber. The preview sports a deceptively delightful color palette and the imagery plays with exaggerated features that include plenty of jagged teeth that are ready to dig into a meal before a couple of nightmare hunters show up. Since this appears to be just one person's nightmare world, it will be interesting to see how many different directions the ongoing series could go into. Smith described Slumber as "an exploration of the surreal world of dreams that is meant to be as weird, funny, unsettling and unpredictable as the wildest dreams that we've all experienced." Hopefully, Slumber will hit all the beats that he wants it to and become another nightmare-inducing horror series from Image Comics.

Cardineli added: "Working on Slumber gave me the delightful opportunity to bring to life all the weird, surreal, and psychedelic worlds that Tyler has imagined. This is a wildly original story peppered with unexpected humor and heart. I hope readers enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed drawing it." So, ready your minds for a nightmare (along with some humor) when Slumber #1 hits comic book stands on March 16, 2022. It will also be available on digital platforms like Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play. Time will tell if it will become a recommendation for new Image Comics readers.
