Screen Rant is thrilled to present an exclusive clip from Slow Horses season 2, which premieres on Apple TV+ on December 2. Based on novels by Mick Hernon, the espionage series hit the ground running when it premiered earlier this year. Fans didn't have to wait too long to pick up where Slough House left off, after the surprising finale provided a successful conclusion to the team's big case along with a mind-blowing revelation about its leader's past.

Said leader is Jackson Lamb, played with aplomb (and with several nods to his previous roles such as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) by Gary Oldman. His team of disgraced MI5 agents, who get the job done more often than not, includes the young and brash River Cartwright (Jack Lowden). Despite having a very important connection to Lamb that even he is not yet aware of, Cartwright has been adamant about getting himself out of Slough House and back into the saddle at Regent Park since the start of the previous season. Based on Screen Rant's exclusive clip for Slow Horses season 2, however, it seems that he has not yet been successful.

What To Expect In Slow Horses Season 2

As seen in the clip above, Slow Horses season 2 finds Cartwright still hoping for a leg up in his career. He is conducting himself admirably in interviews, fielding questions about the less desirable nature of his current position in MI5, but the main stumbling block for him remains his connection to Jackson Lamb. Perhaps the biggest surprise, however, is that the intelligence specialists at Elessar seem impressed by Lamb and desirous to know more about his true personality.

Given that Slow Horses has already been renewed for season 3 and 4 ahead of the current slate of episodes, the series is well-equipped to pace itself according to the books. For that reason, it makes sense that season 2 will be modeled after Herron's second book, called Dead Lions. In it, Russian sleeper agents in London are awakened and Cold War secrets are uncovered, leaving Lamb's team as perhaps the only people who can stop complete chaos from ensuing.

Aside from Lowden and Oldman, Slow Horses also stars Saskia Reeves as Lamb's long-suffering secretary Catherine Standish and Kristin Scott Thomas as MI5's Deputy Director-General, Diana Taverner. Jonathan Pryce returns as River's grandfather, David Cartwright, whose connection to Lamb and the death of double agent Charles Partner was recently revealed. How all these characters will push and pull against each other as they fight to save the world their own way will be one of the great joys season 2 has in store for old fans and new audiences.
