I saw a trailer for Slither a while back and it really caught my eye. It looked like a throwback to those great horror flicks of the early 80's by the likes of John Carpenter. An added bonus was the presence of Nathan Fillion, who played Captain Mal Reynolds in Firefly and Serenity.
Anyway, it looks like it will get an obvious R-rating due to gore, violence and action, but the cool thing is that it looks like it's going to be funny, too. :-) Kind of makes me think of the 1980 movie Motel Hell which was scary, gory and funny all at the same time.
I mention Slither here because I have a feeling that it's one of those little gems that might slide under the radar due to lack of studio promotion and that you might miss it. Filmforce has a set visit piece and a clip from the movie (R-rated clip) that gives some background on what the director (James Gunn) had in mind when creating the film.
If you share the peculiar attraction to funny horror films that I have, shoot over and have a look or visit the official site.
Slither opens March 31st.
