The official Bethesda Twitter account has thanked the director of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the inclusion of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls Mii Fighter costumes. The three Mii Fighter characters were added in Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U, and they let players create their own customizable heroes and villains to use in the game.

Players can unlock some clothing items for the Mii Fighters simply while playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but the best apparel was saved for paid DLC. The DLC costumes sometimes came with additional music tracks that could be played on the basic Super Smash Bros. stages, as well as ones defined as "Other" (such as Duck Hunt or Electroplankton). The DLC costumes allowed franchises to be represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate without giving them a full character slot, such as Sans from Undertale and Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate added a Dragonborn outfit from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in its latest patch. This marks the second time that a Bethesda character has appeared as a Mii Fighter outfit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as the Vault Boy from Fallout was added in a previous update. Masahiro Sakurai posted a picture of the Dragonborn/Vault Boy Mii Fighter outfits on Twitter, in order to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Bethesda Softworks. The official Bethesda Twitter thanked him in response.

The fact that Bethesda was purchased by Microsoft as part of the ZeniMax acquisition means that there is now a lot of content from a competitor in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The Dragonborn and Vault Boy outfits are joined by playable versions of Banjo-Kazooie and several characters from Minecraft, all of which are now owned by Microsoft.

The final DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is on its way and it's unlikely to be another Microsoft character unless Master Chief from Halo is going to finish the fight. Microsoft and Nintendo have been friendly over the past few years, and the fact that Banjo-Kazooie and Steve were able to come to the game shows just how cooperative they can be. It's a shame that Bethesda didn't get a full character represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but the company can be happy in the knowledge that its Mii Fighters were well received by fans and an acknowledgement of the company's impact on the industry at large over the last several generations.
