Recently, an Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim player took an arrow to the knee after battling vampires in defense of Whiterun. Skyrim's iconic "arrow to the knee" quote has long remained a part of internet meme culture and continues to crop up even 10 years after the role-playing title's original launch.

The line itself counts as a stock quote said by various city guards throughout the experience. Sometimes the guards comment on sweetroll thievery, for example. On other occasions, however, one of the NPCs will lament the loss of days gone by and deliver the following line: "I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow to the knee." As far as the memes are concerned, folks online often switch out the "adventurer" bit to serve their intended use of the quote - "I used to [X], then I took an arrow to the knee." Given Bethesda Softworks' fairly recent release of Skyrim Anniversary Edition, it should come as no surprise that this particular line of NPC dialogue has once more taken the internet by storm.

Over the weekend, a Reddit user named Coyotl_the_k shared a screenshot of their character with an arrow in their knee. The Redditor claimed this very specific blow to the extremities came after they managed to defend the town of Whiterun from an "early vampire attack." Of course, other commenters in the thread did not miss a chance to call out that Coyotl_the_k's adventuring days may have prematurely come to an end. But, at the very least, they'll still get to stand guard for the great city of Whiterun. See the post in the link below:

Instances like this have popped up online before, indicating that a player taking an arrow to the knee isn't too rare of an occurrence. Still, it's interesting to note that city guards are not alone in cutting their adventures short due to well-placed arrow shots.

Developer Bethesda Game Studios and publisher Bethesda Softworks originally released The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in November 2011 to widespread acclaim. The groundbreaking RPG has since migrated to several other platforms, including Amazon Alexa. Bethesda packed the most recent version, Skyrim Anniversary Edition, with a host of new features, such as fishing, Survival Mode, and a slew of Creation Club add-ons.
