Bethesda fans likely that The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim came out on November 11, 2011, which means it has been out as long as Morrowind was when Skyrim first released. As fans anxiously await a return to Tamriel, the likelihood is that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still a very long way away. Until then, The Elder Scrolls players will have to be content with exploring the already developed worlds of Morrowind, Cyrodiil, and Skyrim.

Morrowind released on January 5, 2002. The revolutionary RPG allowed fans to explore a vibrant, open world, and many still consider it a stand out title in the franchise. Even though certain mechanics, including the minimap and combat, have not aged well, Morrowind was still a revolutionary title in the open world RPG genre, and it paved the way for the franchise's subsequent successes. That being said, the game has been out for quite a long time now, as has the most recent single player entry in the series.

Twitter user Chris Chapman pointed out that there have been exactly 3,481 days between the release of Morrowind and Skyrim, and on May 23rd, 2021, there had also been 3,481 days since Skyrim was released. What’s even more surprising about this lengthy gap is the fact that Bethesda released Oblivion, another well-regarded entry in the series, in between the releases of Morrowind and Skyrim, making the increasingly lengthy wait for the new entry even more frustrating.

When The Elder Scrolls 6 finally does arrive, Skyrim will likely be considerably older than Morrowind was when Skyrim released, and there hasn't been a true single-player Elder Scrolls game in between this time. Though Fallout 4 and its controversial multiplayer counterpart Fallout 76 have arrived since the release of Skyrim, the lack of fantasy RPGs from the game studio is definitely disappointing. There have been multiple statements from Bethesda executives that claim The Elder Scrolls 6 is still years away, which will leave quite a sizeable gap since Skyrim.

Of course, The Elder Scrolls Online is still going strong, but the classic single-player experience present in Morrowind or Skyrim is certainly missing in the MMORPG. Though it’s likely that Bethesda is taking its time to polish the next Elder Scrolls game - a fact that fans should be grateful for, in the long run - it’s still discouraging for players to have to wait so long before getting another chance to save Tamriel. Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait another 3,481 days for The Elder Scrolls 6 to arrive.
