In the upcoming Nintendo Switch version of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, fans will able to adventure through Skyrim as the protagonist of the Legend of Zelda series, Link. Bethesda made the announcement at their press conference at E3 2017.

Bethesda released a teaser trailer that shows how players can access the Hero of Time in Skyrim. The character becomes playable when the player activates a Breath of the Wild Link amibo to unlock a treasure chest in the game. Amibos are small character figures that add new content to select Nintendo titles, such as Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS.

In the teaser trailer, we see Link wielding the Master Sword and the Hylian shield, two weapons that have been iconic Legend of Zelda gear since Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. Instead of wearing his green tunic that appears in most Legend of Zelda titles, Link is dressed in his blue outfit which appears in the latest game, Breath of the Wild.

Fans are excited for this chance to see Legend of Zelda cross over with Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Some have called Breath of the Wild Nintendo's Skyrim, due to the game's extremely positive reception, beautiful graphics, open world setting, and freedom to do whatever you want. Also, having Link in Skyrim seems like a perfect choice since the character fits almost seamlessly into that world. Like the protagonist of Skyrim, the Hero of Time is a man of few words, which means that using Link won't seem strange or out-of-place at all.

Though this is certainly big news for both the Legend of Zelda and Elder Scrolls franchise, this isn't the first time players have tried to insert elements of Zelda into the world of Skyrim. The PC version of the game has modding tools, making it possible for players to create their own content. The vast number of mods that add items like the Master Sword, Hylian shield, and Majora's Mask shows just how high the demand is for Zelda content in Skyrim.

While Link's appearance in Skyrim could be the biggest news for the Legend of Zelda franchise to come out of E3 2017, more details of DLC for Link's own adventure in Breath of the Wild is expected to be unveiled by Nintendo.

Complete with all DLC from the original game, the Nintendo Switch version of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is expected to release later this year.
