A new Skyrim glitch allowed a player to max out their two-handed skill level-up, having created an infinite hitbox for the player to utilize. Bethesda recently re-released Skyrim to celebrate the game’s tenth birthday, with the Skyrim Anniversary Edition featuring new Creation Club content to explore such as dungeons and fishing. Despite the game’s massive success and continuous popularity, Skyrim still has its fair share of bugs and glitches, as do many of Bethesda’s original IPs such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 4.

While Bethesda has worked to remove many glitches in the Skyrim: Anniversary Edition, some still remain – whether for good or for bad. Though the game is ten years old, some Skyrim players still encounter The Black Screen of Death, broken physics, as well as NPCs and items spawning underground. Skyrim’s technical issues aren’t all bad, though, and many even add charm to the open-world RPG. Flying mammoths, hidden merchant chests, and living mannequins are just some of the fun glitches in Skyrim. And as the game gets older and more of its expansive open world is explored, there will likely be many more glitch discoveries to entertain fans.

Reddit user InstructionSlow3396 (via Game Rant) discovered one such Skyrim glitch that allowed them to max out their two-handed skill level-up. While fighting a Blood Dragon, InstructionSlow3396 encountered an infinite hitbox that enabled them to keep using their two-handed weapon without doing any damage to the enemy. Since the weapon was technically in use, the player’s two-handed skill kept gaining levels. The trick could essentially be repeated infinitely, giving the player the opportunity to increase their combat skill until it was completely maxed out.

Since it is an RPG, leveling up in Skyrim is an important aspect of the game and is especially important when playing on higher difficulties. Since Skyrim characters don’t gain levels through traditional means like experience points, maxing out individual skills such as alchemy or lockpicking is the only way to gain levels and improve skills. There have been many examples of infinite skill glitches in Skyrim, such as one with the Greybeards that allows players to max out the sneak skill. In the case of the infinite hitbox glitch, InstructionSlow3396 was able to max out their two-handed skill without having to find additional mobs to fight. Since the Blood Dragon was passive and still soaking the blows, the glitch could be used indefinitely. If they hadn’t maxed out the one-handed skill already, InstructionSlow3396 likely could have utilized the bug to max out their other combat skills.

Though Bethesda has patched some of Skyrim’s glitches, there are likely still more to be found scattered around the world. And as long as those glitches don’t completely break the game, many fans welcome the often hilarious bugs that pop up all over Tamriel, and consider them a key part of the iconic RPG's charm.
