Bethesda just celebrated the 20 year anniversary of Morrowind, and Beyond Skyrim released a celebratory teaser of a new expansion mod for The Elder Scrolls V. Regardless of how many years have passed, the Elder Scrolls series is still being played by thousands of gamers around the world, and Skyrim continues to be the most successful game of the franchise.

Skyrim, and in fact each game in the Elder Scrolls franchise, contains deep lore surrounding its universe's sense of mysticism. However, many characters connect to real-world astrology. With a wide band of memorable characters filling the game, many embody the core tenets of the signs of the Zodiac.

Cancer: Constance Michel

Cancers are full of sensitivity and love, which makes them one of the softest and kindest Zodiac signs. The children of Honorhall Orphanage in Riften, after suffering the cruelties of Grelod the Kind, are truly blessed with the assistance of an obvious Cancer: Constance Michel.

When entering the orphanage the Dragonborn can hear the children’s observations about Constance’s caring attitude and how they wish she could run the institution. When she eventually does, her family-oriented personality points her out as an outstanding Cancer who fulfills her natural Zodiac role through the most heartwarming of causes.

Aries: Cicero

Cicero stands outdoors in Skyrim.

Often described as energetic children at heart with the potential to come off as hot-headed, Aries are undeniably unique personalities. So is the case of the unforgettable member of the Dark Brotherhood and Keeper of the Night Mother: Cicero.

This Skyrim jester is no stranger to contagious laughter, emotional outbursts, and fits of rage in short spans of time, and even though he is considered someone who often doesn't think straight, Cicero's wide palette of emotions and his strange ways of doing things can be as dangerous as it can be amusing.

Taurus: Ysolda

The Dragonborn meets Ysolda for the first time in Whiterun after she approaches the adventurer for some help finding a Mammoth Tusk, but later on, Ysolda appears in some missions' hidden details where her hard work as a trader and a businesswoman prove she is an undeniable Taurus.

Determined to make money with the Khaijit caravans and buy The Bannered Mare, and also interested in marrying the Dragonborn, Ysolda demonstrates her goals of stability, her capacity with finances, her practical approach to solutions, and her kind and romantic personality all of Taurus' lovable traits.

Gemini: Barbas

Barbas the dog sits outside in Skyrim.

The Zodiac sign of Gemini represents the dualism within someone or, in other words, the varied and sometimes opposing forces that exist in side many. Barbas is no human, but he certainly surprised most players when he appeared as a normal dog and was actually later revealed to be a shape-shifting Daedra.

At first glance, he is an adorable harmless puppy, but soon enough turns out to be an unbeatable and deadly warrior. Gemini are also known for being very curious, playful, unpredictable, and excitable, and Barbas checks all of those boxes with his happy temper, fidelity, and vast knowledge of Skyrim.

Leo: Ulfric Stormcloak

Ulfric Sormcloak stands by a grassy mound in Skyrim.

Is difficult to argue if there is a more ambitious, passionate, and determined character than Ulfric Stormcloak, whose deep desires to win the throne and his tendency for dramatic speeches make him an undeniable lion of the astrological constellations.

Leos are known for always wanting the spotlight, and Ulfric’s confidence in his right to the throne and his unquestionable ability to rule match him well with this sign's most common traits. His personality, even though it can sometimes sound arrogant, shows fierce leadership and strength that is befitting a Leo.

Virgo: Arngeir

The Greybeards wait in High Hrothgar

For every judgment or decision, Virgos rely primarily on logic, analysis, practicality, and intellectualism. The Greybeards, though sometimes controversial figures among the people of Skyrim, are known for their knowledge and problem solving that largely benefits the greater good.

With his practical approach, Argneir shows the Dragonborn how to reach perfection with dragon shouts, and, more importantly, he becomes the mediator between the Imperials and Stormcloaks for the war to cease temporarily or permanently in order to defeat Alduin. No other sign but Virgo could achieve order in such apocalyptic chaos.

Libra: Balgruuf the Greater

Balgruuf the Greater Skyrim stands in his hall in Skyrim

Libras are, above all, excellent achievers of balance and seekers of peace, and of all the Jarls of Skyrim, Balgruuf the Greater best fits this description. As he once mentions to the Dragonborn, he is not really interested in any of the war matters; he just wants peace and safety for his people.

Jarl Balgruuf the Greater stands out for his leadership and politics, which are distinguishable for his caring, sensible, and intellectual approach. When making any decision, his mixture of brain and heart reveals his Libra nature.

Scorpio: Sheogorath

When Sheogorath is met in Skyrim, he mentions being present for the Oblivion Crisis, and alludes to multiple events the Hero of Kvatch was involved in

Sheogorath shows interest in digging deep through the complexities and extreme variations of the mind and its emotions. His realm of madness is nothing more than the metaphoric scenery of radical feelings and the power of thought. This unmatched philosophical intensity on a character could be no other sign than Scorpio.

On top of that, the motives behind his acts are definitely mysterious, something characteristic of this Zodiac sign’s personality. However, Scorpio's puzzling behavior can certainly enchant others, just as Sheogorath charms his way into the player’s memory.

Sagittarius: Aela the Huntress

Sagittarius is represented by an adventurous and intellectual archer. Not only is Aela the Huntress an experienced archer herself, but her fidelity and pride as a member of the Companions, and her vast knowledge of lycanthropy's history make her the perfect representative of the zodiac sign.

Aela the Huntress demonstrates her love for journeys, missions, and adventure every single step of her journey in Skyrim. Her indomitable and free spirit unarguably defines her as a Sagittarius who knows how to stand out from the other female companions.

Capricorn: Paarthunax

Skyrim: What happens if you don't kill Paarthurnax

Capricorns tend to see life through a patient, calculative, and persistent lens, and Paarthunax shows that approach to life and destiny through every aid, story, decision, and lesson he shares with the Greybeards and the Dragonborn.

Paarthunax understands the contemplative and transforming opportunities that time offers, and takes a meditated and well-thought advantage of it for his own goals, growth, and ambitions, just like a hardworking, practical, and focused Capricorn would do.

Aquarius: Serana

Skyrim NPC Serana, standing with her hands on her hips and looking at the camera.

Serana’s sense of style, insatiable hunger for knowledge, and kind social skills that she shows to the Dragonborn are true to the Aquarius personality characteristics. Not only that, but her willingness to explore and discover the world that for centuries was kept away from her also makes her a great candidate for the air sign.

Aquarius are innovative, but at the same time they can sometimes come off as close-minded, something Serana can’t help but be due to her history, her age, and her peculiar royal family. It is difficult to be locked up for centuries, not complain about many things, and be stubborn, though Serana works hard to grow into the new knowledge available to her.

Pisces: Maramal

Maramal speaks to the player in his traditional robes

Maramal is a kind, caring, and spiritual man devoted to Mara, the goddess of love. He does nothing else in the game but demonstrate his sensitivity and empathy, helping others and offering guidance for those who are in love and wish to get married.

Everything he is and does fit well with the last constellation of the zodiac. Pisces are compassionate and always put other people’s well-being first. A Mara priest whose life has become one of austerity, devotion, and service could hardly be anything else than this romantic and sensitive Zodiac sign.
