During today’s Limited Run Games’ Forever Physical live stream showcase, held as part of E3 2021, SkateBIRD was announced to be getting a physical edition for the Nintendo Switch and PS4. This is all thanks to Limited Run Games, who make and release physical edition copies for indie studios and publishers across multiple mainstream consoles.
SkateBIRD is a game where players control small birds on skateboards, skating around bird-sized skate parks. From American developer Glass Bottom Games, SkateBIRD is a sort of pseudo-Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game, where the skateboarders are replaced with tiny birds. Players skate across small-scale areas, with objects such as pencils, erasers and other household items strewn around to be interacted with and skated upon. Various tricks can be performed, ranging from the relatively simple to more difficult and complex tricks, the latter of which is worth higher scores. There are also items to be collected in each of the different skate parks, as well as a range of different colored birds and skateboards that players can select from.
After a digital release announced for August 12 this year on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC, SkateBIRD is now getting a physical release for both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch as well. Initially the game was set to release in 2020, but was delayed due to the decision to add a new story mode to the game prior to release, as opposed to the ongoing world-wide pandemic which has delayed many other games in development. In the trailer shown during the E3 showcase online, and posted on Limited Run Games' YouTube account, SkateBIRD was featured as one of the 30 titles announced for physical release.
Some of the newly developed story mode was also shown in the video, which is a good sign, since it was the reason for the game's significant delay. This was the same trailer shown during the Summer of Gaming 2021 live stream hosted earlier in the week, save for the addition of details concerning the game's physical release.
There are no details yet on when the physical release will become available, or just what will be included in the new editions aside from the game itself. Limited Run is prone to releasing special editions of certain titles which come with added bonuses. One such special edition was released for Among Us, which came with a real physical Emergency Meeting button. More information about SkateBIRD's physical release should be made available to the public once a release date is announced further down the line.
SkateBIRD is available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC through Steam. A physical edition will be released for Switch and PS4 at an unknown date.
