Christine Brown shocked Sister Wives fans with her decision to leave Kody Brown and his three other wives, but Christine has a history of demonstrating her independent spirit on the polygamist reality series. Although Christine has been one of the Brown family's peacemakers, the television personality has also exhibited that she is a free-thinker that won't go along with just anything Kody and his wives order her to do. From refusing to move back into one home to fleeing the family for Utah, these are all of the times that Christine showed off her self-sufficiency.

On November 2, Christine and Kody took to social media to announce that their spiritual marriage has come to an end. In an Instagram post, Christine explained, "After more than 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave... At this time, we ask for your grace and kindness as we navigate through this stage within our family." Unsurprisingly, fans were elated to hear the news of Christine and Kody's breakup. Throughout Sister Wives' run, viewers agree that Kody has neglected Christine and poured all of his affection into his marriage with his fourth wife, Robyn. Although rumors about Christine leaving Kody have swirled for some time, fans didn't allow themselves to get too excited as Kody's had a habit of retaining his four wives.

While Kody might be effective in his ability to keep his spiritual relationships with his first two wives, Meri and Janelle, despite their consistent marital hiccups, Christine isn't like her former sister wives. Throughout her journey on Sister Wives, Christine has proven that she has her own voice and isn't too timid to express her disdain for Kody's decisions. One time Christine stood up for herself against Kody was when the couple's daughter Ysabel needed to get spine surgery. Ysabel struggled with scoliosis and had to get spine surgery. Because the operation was scheduled during the COVID-19 pandemic and took place in a facility in New Jersey, Kody refused to travel with Ysabel. The polygamist patriarch even suggested that Ysabel travel to the Garden state on her own. Christine shut down Kody's claims and supported her daughter in person without her husband.

Another time Christine showed off her free spirit and opposed her Sister Wives spouses was when Kody proposed the idea of moving into one large house for all five of the Sister Wives stars to live in together. Before Robyn joined the plural marriage, Kody, Meri, Janelle, and Christine lived in one home, but Christine wasn't interested in returning to this lifestyle. Christine preferred the liberty she had when she lived in her own house. Even though Kody and Janelle were enthusiastic about the single-home plan, Christine was adamant about her need to live separately from her sister wives. Christine continued to take a strong stance against Kody's Arizona Coyote Pass plans in the Sister Wives season 16 trailer, where she told her husband that she wanted to move back to Utah. When Kody rejected Christine's wishes, the former sister wife reportedly moved to Utah on her own.

Christine and Kody's breakup might've stunned supporters of the pair's spiritual marriage, but Christine's pattern of standing up for herself has indicated this possibility for years. From disobeying Kody and accompanying Ysabel during her spine surgery to shutting down the Brown family's plan to live in one big house together, Christine has been an outspoken free-spirit on the reality show. With her departure from the polygamous family imminent, Christine is sure to be more independent than ever on Sister Wives season 16.
